New Music Releases Thread

It's a bumper week for new releases with albums from Baby Dave, Bonnie Raitt, Bowling For Soup, Fontaines DC, Hatchie, Jane Inc., King GIzzard & the Lizard Wizard, Old Crow Medicine Show, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Pusha T, S. Carey, Spiritualized, Bob Vylan, Wet Tuna, Kathryn Joseph, James Heather, Joshua Hedley, Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder and The Lazy Eyes.

The new Bonnie Raitt album is pretty good. I can't believe she is still turning out stuff this good. While listening to her new album at allotment earlier today and having a pipey break from planting onions, oddly enough I stumbled across an article about her in my morning paper. Just Like That is her 21st album it said. Fifty-one years after her first album was released. And she still sounds fab.

Right, I'll try and the full list in here. We have new releases this week from Jens Lekman (the second half of his career retrospective), !!!, Arcade Fire, Belle & Sebastian, Halestorm, Jack Harlow, Karen Dalton (unreleased live tracks), Kikagaku Moyo (their final album), Pink Mountaintops, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Sharon Van Etten, Silverstein, Simple Plan, Soft Cell, Sunflower Bean, Three Days Grace, Warpaint, The Waterboys, Kate Rusby, Leyla McCalla, Ibeyi, Hater, The Americans, Nicole Faux Naiv, Fader, Maria Chiara Argiro, Norma Tanega (studio recordings and demos comp), Flora Purim and Michael Scott Dawson.

Kayleigh Goldsworthy (though I'm not expecting much given the pop direction of the singles so far)

RBCF for me, B&S, maybe Warpaint, plus catching up on Bloc Party and Let's Eat Grandma from last week

I'm currently about 3/4's of the way through the new Belle & Sebastian album, it's a far cry from the early B&S stuff that made me fall in love with them, but it's still Belle & Sebastian and very enjoyable it is.

Sharon Von Ettem pretty dull on first listen but ill give another go.

Free / Slop new album is beaut if you like instrumental / motorik.

Listened once and i hated it. And I used to love them, Funeral is in my top 5 records ever

Will have a second listen

I haven't liked much from them in recent years either

That gig at Koko t'other week looked great mind

I really like it.
I’m not a connoisseur on B&S so what would you recommend as the best go to album of theirs ?

They're my favourite band, so I'm a bit biased, but I'd honestly just take it in sequence, or maybe listen to the "Dog On Wheels" EP first, see if you like it, and if so move onto "Tigermilk" then "If You're Feeling Sinister" (widely regarded as their best album).
All of the Jeepster EP's are pretty good and they were later released on the compilation album "Push Barman To Open Old Wounds".
If you're more fond of their later sound (way more produced and polished than their early lo fi stuff) then try Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance.
All of their stuff is worth a go though, even the weaker albums (for me, The Life Pursuit / Write About Love) have some cracking songs in them, so I'd just take album at a time and see what sticks!

one of my very favourite bands.

Personally I think any of their studio albums up to The Life Persuit are fantastic. After there there was a slight change and I haven't taken any to heart

Reckon my top B&S studio albums are the below, but I could change that any month tbh

1. The Boy With The Arab Strap
2. If You're Feeling Sinister
3. The Life Persuit
4. Dear Catastrophe Waitress

New arcade fire album is a pleasant listen, a return to form even.
I agree, only had one listen but I really liked it. First album I've heard from them since The Suburbs that I've enjoyed and listened to without skipping a track. At 40 minutes long it seems the penny has dropped that having 30 minutes of garbage filler isn't necessary.

Think I'll head to their Manchester gig in September. Still haven't seen them live, probably the only big band left I'd like to tick off.
