I love Sea Power, they’ve released some brilliant indie rock records, as well as genius like Man of Aran, I’ve seen them in tiny venues and had a blast, they have dancing bears. They’re great.

Hurray for the Riff Raff, whilst not someone I love, is a very good record

I don't know if this was mentioned and its seems to have passed me by but what a tremendous return from Soft Cell.

Late again with my potted review of my new listening (why I say potted, I've no idea, there is no pot). Anyway, some from this week, some from a bit before:
Eric Chenaux: long songs, kind of interesting, not sure what to make of it, probably quite good.
Lia Ices: This is about a year old. Female singer-songwriter, pretty good, not life changing.
Beach House: Long, dreamy, long and dreamy, actually deceptively shorter than it seems. Very good.
Metronomy: good band, good album, seems to have had quite a low key release. Some lovely pop is involved.
Modern Studies: strident psych-folk. Kind of good, like their earlier albums.
Eve Adams: female singer-songwriter. Goes a bit electronic at times. Good album.
Al Doum & The Faryds: These are the albums you wait for. Freaky, world, jazz, carrot weirdness. Reminds me of Goat. Tremendous!
Dean Owens: experienced Scottish singer-songwriter makes album with members of Calexico, Calexiconess ensues. Really good!
Hurray for the Riff Raff: it's good, possibly very good. Follows Alynda Segarra's template of no two albums sounding or theming alike.
Shovels & Rope: it's the fun Americana album of the week. Great duets. Remind me a bit of Timbuk 3 on this album.
Sea Power: very low key!
Uele Lamore: interesting. Modern classical composer does electronica. It's a good listen.
Ocean Child (compilation): a Yoko Ono tribute album. Some big, artsy names involved (Flaming Lips, Stephin Merritt, Yo La Tengo, David Byrne). It's a good compilation that's quite poppy.
Sarah Shook & the Disarmers: it's a good alt-country album, nothing more, nothing less.
Partner Look: Australian indie pop. I kind of like this although I'm not sure I'll look back on it as a highlight of my year.
The Cactus Blossoms: good harmony vocals. Quite easy to listen to Americana. Not life changing.
Rokia Kone & Jackknife Lee: another to put in the good but not great file. Great Malian vocals, tasteful electronic production. I like it but think it could have been better.
Wovenhand: David Eugene Edwards of 18 Wheeler does doomy American-metal. It's ace! Proper boingy.
Album of the Week: well, that's Al Doum & the Faryds. Wovenhand, Shovels & Rope and Hurray for the Riff Raff close but no cigar. The Beach House album is good also.

There are new album releases tomorrow from Avril Lavigne, Melissa Lavigne, Basia Bulat, Carson McHone, Dashboard Confessional, Holodrum, Judy Collins, Robert Glasper, Sasami, Tears For Fears, Bird in the Belly, Superchunk, Binker & Moses, Bob Lind, Rosalie Cunningham, Rodelius & Story, Park Jiha, Jonny Marr, Duquette Johnston, Keeley Forsyth, caroline, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, The Volunteered, Melt Yourself Down and Gang of Youths.
There should also have been albums from Spiritualized and Soft Cell but both have been delayed (until April and May respectively).

Me too. According to some on their forum, it is 'available' if you know where to look. I've ordered it but I prefer longer for the songs to become familiar so I enjoy the gig more.

I don’t understand this new found trend for cassette tapes. I understand the nostalgia for vinyl, especially since they are now able to press them with higher quality materials, but tapes always sounded pretty shitty and only got worse the more they were played. And it’s not like they are flat so can be framed and put on a wall very easily.

If a "bundle" includes a cassette it's an extra album sale when it comes to chart position. I doubt many people play their new cassettes.
They just announced an instore at Rough Trade NYC and it's already waiting list! Don't suppose you have any contacts this side do you?

Cheap and readily available (particularly in light of the vinyl raw materials shortage) and counts as record sale. We often bundle up cassettes with t shirts or gig tickets - the majority % of the cost is something the punter really wants and the cassette is just thrown in as an extra to massage week 1 chart position really. Nobody’s ever gonna play it, they won’t even have the means to. Super fans will buy them just to see the band chart well. What’s another fiver if you’ve already downloaded it and bought three different colourways on wax!

caroline is a really pretty listen though not much new material on the album than what they’d already released. Be intrigued to see what they’re like live.
