New Music Releases Thread

been listening to an album called Welfare Jazz by Viagra Boys, and i love it. swedish 'post-punk' whatever the fuck that means. its canny banging in places and funky as owt, got a bit of attitude about it. its nowt ground breaking but certainly refreshing. 8/10 deffo recommended. theres a john prine vocal sample/remix of 'in spite of ourselves' which was a great suprise

Have you heard their debut?

So...

Pearl Charles - sort of Americana, sort of disco. Interesting album.
Conny Frischauf - vaguely electronic Germanity. Good!
Buck Meek - the guitarist from Big Thief with his second solo album. It's nice. Gentleish indie-folk type stuff
Midnight Sister - a weird mix of Goth and disco. Either Gosco or Dith, I guess. Haunting vocals with danceable tunes. In a different age, they could be big.
Shame - very good. They've evolved from their debut in many ways. Not sure it has the shoutalonginess that the debut had. We'll find out.
Pom Poko - well, this is fun. Female fronted post-punk with big hooks. Great!
Sleaford Mods - it's extremely good. They're moving on but staying the same. Not sure about the Amy Taylor guest slot but very good.

AoTW - I'm giving this one to Pom Poko but all of the above seven are good.

Street worms? Had a listen yesterday and liked it . The new one is a belter though. I rarely find anything new that I listen to more than once or twice but had that on 4 times all the way through this week

I like welfare jazz but the debut is excellent. They’re playing Newcastle if / when this is over

Buck Meek was so disappointing. I listened to half of Pom Poko, will give it another shot based on this

shame album gets album of the week in sunday times, daniiel knox album gets a good review too, pom poko seems ( according to reviewer ) bit of a curates egg.

Shame record is very very good IMO. Really pleased they’ve beaten the Difficult Second Album curse with something that’s progressed their sound. Great set of lads too.

Unexpected part 2 of this:

Daniel Knox - very good but not sure it's as good as his last album. He's still quite old school John Grant still.
Four Tet (sort of) - I hadn't realised that he'd released another album at the same time as Parallel because the artist name seems to be in binary. Anyway, 20 tracks mostly dating back to 1996 so a bit rougher than recent albums and experimenting with shoegaze, trip-hop and post-rock as well as electronica.
Beautify Junkyards - a medling of folk, psych rock and electronica from Portugal. They're good... very good!
