Merry Hell, an eight piece folk band form Wigan have released their new album 'Emergency Lullabies' on streaming platforms this morning. The more up tempo tracks are a little reminiscent of The Levellers.
Merry Hell was formed by a number of former members of Tansads. It is published that at one time Tansads were vying with The Verve to be the biggest band from Wigan. We all know how that turned out.

This week's new albums as far as I'm concerned:
Tina - there's an accent on the n, I think. Promising slacker rock debut, most of it works, some doesn't.
Pole - austere but languid electronica. It generally makes for good listening. I'd recommend the 'I/II/III' anthology above this though.
Tunng - it's a concept album about death and how we deal with it. Musically, they continue to plough the same gentle folktronica furrow. Enjoyable!
Krust - his first album in 14 years, after taking some time away from music. It's drum and bass with interesting samples. A long album but it never feels overly long.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - essentially, it's Greendale done live. Greendale's a decent enough concept album without being special so not sure why it's been picked for a live release. Still, some of it is lovely, "Grandpa's Interview" in particular is far better live than the studio original.
Herman Dune - their most American album yet. There are nods to Silver Jews (it's dedicated to David Berman) and The Felice Brothers. It's witty and moving, one of their best!
Seamus Fogarty - Irish folk. It's his third album. It's very good, sounds a bit like Bonnie 'Prince' Billy at times and James Yorkston at others. "Nuns" is probably one of the songs of the year.

That Fleet Foxes album is a real grower.

This is a random one, remix of Wilcos "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" by the director of Moonlight. Apparently he has form for this. Not sure what to make of it yet.

Cribs is next week. Delayed due to an issue at the pressing plant or something like that.
Ah, right. Metacritic had it for this week but Amazon for next week. I went with the former.
