Did you see Money at EOTR, Arkle? That performance got a mention on the Guardian podcast, very good apparently.

I saw Money in the Big Top at EOTR. That guy can sing, despite having the worst haircut in the music biz, but I found their overall sound was a bit disappointing, too 'full' I suppose. My favourite part was the opening when he came on by himself and sang Ole Man River. I heard later that they went and did a 'secret set' at the tiny piano stage and I would love to have heard that.

Another fantastic weekend, met loads of old friends, made some new ones, though I've just realised I didn't bump into Arkle, unless I was confusing him with Mathew E White! Everything well up to standard, drink, food (even more delights this year), toilets, film tent and all the other little extras that make the festival so special. Musically my 5 personal highlights were:

David Byrne & St Vincent: down the front for this. New entry in my Top 5 live shows ever
Eels - very upbeat set, great fun. Cover of 'Oh Well' was a surprise bonus
Mike Heron with Trembling Bells - I'm an old hippy so seeing him perform a whole set of Incredible String Band Songs was just a treat
Dawes - my favourite new band. They came on to do the 1st of the unannounced late night shows in the Tipi and we didn't know who they were until they started playing. Fantastic live sound - well done to Calmac for pushing them in this thread
John Murry - one of the most scary and emotional performances I've ever seen

Sounds very good in my opinion like also reports of David Bowie to appear on the album.

Strangely enough I didn't see you either and I was in the Tipi for Dawes. Saw some of Money's set... seemed good, although one song late on was very U2. My highlights...

Eels - as above.
Night Beds - fantastic voice on the main man
Jens Lekman - most fun set of the weekend, the crowd turned it into some of badly coordinated disco line dancing thing
Public Service Broadcasting - as good as ever
The Barr Brothers - late night set in the Tipi on the Sunday, Low Anthemesque loveliness
The food from the Tibetan Kitchen.

Aye, enjoyed Jens a lot and I struggled to tear meself away from PSB but John Murry was calling. The Barr Brothers also provided one of the best moments of the weekend when they did 'Like A Rolling Stone' with Daniel Lefkowitz. As for food, did you try the Balkan stall? The lamb and beef sarnies had me drooling and their deli stuff was good too.

Pleased to see that Pokey Lafarge is playing at the Cluny in a month or two. Also heard some positive noises about the return of No Direction Home next year.

Aye, the Balkan place was excellent as well! I'd love to see No Direction home coming back again.
 
Giving the King Krule album a go, halfway through and I'm enjoying it, seems a bit long though at 14 tracks, not a fan at all of overly long albums.
 
"We Knew It Was Not Going To Be Like This" by Surf City is top notch. Kiwi indie stuff, not entirely like something you'd get on Flying Nun. And "Repave" by Volcano Fire is possibly the best album Justin Vernon has been involved in. I wasn't keen on their first album album but this is magnificent!

Think Repave is second behind Bon Iver's first album. Still not listened to Gayngs album yet though from a few years ago and have heard good things about it.

To be fair, I think it's a list that they expect the nominations to come from not their own preferred list of nominees. I'd expect at least 7 or 8 albums to come from that lot - Bowie, Atoms for Peace, BoC, Arctic Monkeys all seem certainties to me.

Not sure that Nick Cave is even eligible but they have him on their list.
