New Music Releases Thread

Yeah, Wasp's nest is spectacular. Absolutely beautiful. About Today isn't one of my favourites but is a good song. I think This Is The Last Time is superb too.

I have some very good quality bootlegs of two gigs from the early days if anyone was interested I could upload them?

Yeah, id be interested in hearing them. Went to see them a few times in their early days as a mate of mine was involved in their UK promotion and whatnot.

I think the reason about today is such a favorite is because i have very found memories of seeing them perform it in a room full of about twenty off people and sing absolutely memorized by it.

A little mainstream and also old, but Beacon by 2DCC is a brilliant album. Night Visions, Imagine Dragons came out September last year. It's fantastic.

I'll have to pick up the new National LP, it going cheap anywhere online?

Nah, same price everywhere really, Amazon is probably cheapest from what I've seen.

HMV is selling it for £15 if you don't mind shitting indie record stores by buying it from there ;-) (which is what I did because I'm tight).

SOunds like something I should investigate.

Newish stuff I'm liking...

"O' Be Joyful" by Shovels'n'Rope. Kind of countyish, more duettish White Stripes vibe to them.

"Re-Mit" by The Fall. Goes without saying really...

"Emily" by Emily. Not very new at all. Re-release of a 1972 baroque psychedelic folk album recorded in France by a 16 year old American girl called Emily Bindiger.

"Silver Wilkinson" by Bibio. Ambient guitar stuff, overtones of Boards of Canada. I think Bibio has made about 7 albums, I've only got a couple but both good.

"Love in Arms" by Gabriel Bruce. He reminds me of The National.

I like that as well - but then the Stripes are my favourite band 8-)

I'll get them uploaded tomorrow then.

All Dolled Up In Straps is a beautiful number too - I know it seems like I'm listing a lot of songs but they are a stellar band

Cheers mate. I usually buy new albums online and just go round the record shops for older ones. :-)

There's apparently a listening party for the new Boards of Canada album at a disused waterpark in the Californian desert in a few hours.
:-?

Funnily enough I was listening to The Campfire Headphase before, if that's true it will be fantastic. 8-)

Aye. It's very Stripesian. Did you ever listen to Blanche, White Stripes' country playing mates. Made a couple of very good albums five or six years back.

If you like Blanche try The Handsome Family. (they're touring at the moment too.)

Listened to the new The National album yesterday and found it really disappointing.

Also tried the new Laura Marling offering and switched it off after 2 tracks.

Normally like both artists so hoping I was just having an off day but neither stood out as being worth listening too :-x

Annoying thing is the new Tribes album is really growing on me even though it's utter turd... I know it's utter turd but it's bloody catchy despite sounding like a horrifically over produced Primal Scream tribute band.

Are you sure it's not the new Primal Scream album you're listening to? ;-)

I'm hoping The National's new album's a grower as well... it hasn't really grabbed me on two listens.

Haha honestly sounds like it... not a huge Tribes fan really anyway, 1st album had a few decent songs on it but never really grabbed me as being a deep record of any kind... new one is so pointless and shallow, fuck knows why I keep listening to it

The new The National album will probably end up being a grower I'd imagine... all the previous albums had something quite catchy at the start be it Sorrow, Anyone's Ghost, Fake Empire, Brainy etc... this seems to be missing that instant grabbing you and making you want to hear the next song. Reminds me of 'Build a Rocket Boys' by Elbow in regards the songs seem perfectly fine without that spark that is usually there that makes it so great

I reckon it's their best album yet, it's a real grower but isn't every National album? I love it!

I think that's the thing... every album of theirs grows the more you listen to it, but still there was a few catchy tunes to keep you interested until it had grown on you fully.

I just didn't get that when I gave it a listen. Still it was only one listen so I'll not write it off just yet :-)
