New Music Releases Thread

2 of my favourites of the year are from this weeks releases, Ibibio sound machine and Aldous harding, expected to like neither but love them both.

Other standouts - Big thief, Anais Mitchell and Widowspeak

Warmduscher and Rheinzand for me.
I’ll listen to Confidence Man as enjoyed their debut but I think they’ve gone more cheese and pop now

Not been much new music I'm excited by this year, so far. I like the latest Fontaines singles more than I have any of their other records and I thought the King Hannah album was cool, too. Mostly gone back to listening to Bobby Blue Bland, Marvin Gaye, Stax stuff. Out objectively and near enough objectively good I'm missing out on?
If the Fontaines single is that Jackie one, I hate it

Branko Mataja: the hidden sounds of old Yugoslavia. This is a compilation of his folkish guitar pieces. It's interesting and, I think, very good.

An excellent album, but incredibly odd. A re-issue of a private pressing of Serbian folk tunes recorded in the 1970s on a homemade guitar with huge echo and over dub.

Brilliant, but very niche. I'm a big Yugoton fan, so this is right up my street, but even for me it sounds weird

Yeah, it got a 9/10 review in Uncut, which was how I heard about it. He sounds like he had quite the life before ending up in the US.

New one from Aldous Harding is impressive, but I find all her albums to be of a very high standard. Adding Cate Le Bon and BCNR that's probably my top 3 in this first quarter.

Andy Bell, Yard Act, Night Shop and William Loveday Intention highlights for me. Nothing I’d give a 10/10 to though.

Some heavy hitters to come though and I’m hoping for greatness from Spiritualized, Brian Jonestown massacre, Working Mens Club and Michael Head.

There's a lot in the next 5 or 6 weeks. Spiritualized are my go to band as always.

They're very, very good live, always. One of my most seen bands.
Last time I saw them was pre lockdown at All Points East and they were superb. I randomly saw Jason in shoreditch a day before the gig and he looked physically in a poor way but he put on an amazing gig. He sat down throughout it but was still excellent.
