Yep. So much from Wild Beasts that Amazon seem to be listing the CD and vinyl versions as being by Wild Beasts.

Most of that lot for me plus Black Mountain and BCUC. May give Guards a listen as their debut was good. Boogarins also - Brazilian psych rockers who got a cracking review in last month's Uncut.

Away from that, the Black Peaches album, which came out last week is excellent.

Crikey, that is a bit special.

I'll be intrigued to see how this album goes down live.
Went to see them (Big Thief) there on Tuesday, it was a cracking gig, new album went down really well, I had struggled with it a little at the start but really like it now. This was the setlist which I'm not sure is 100% correct. Big Thief Setlist at Vicar Street, Dublin
Was strange not to play U.F.O.F and there was an awkward moment at the very end when they left the stage (didnt do any encores despite what the setlist says) lights stayed down, enya of all things starts playing over the PA. With the lights off for so long people were sure they were coming back so there was this 3 minute stretch where the crowd are just standing there listening to enya until the house lights came up.

Last time I saw them the lead guitarist wasnt there, he was off doing his solo stuff. He was back tonight and they were definitely rockier than the last time but she does much that she really is the only thing you're looking at on stage, then there's that voice...

Weirdly King Joffrey (jack gleeson) from game of thrones was there too

Justin Townes Earle, Sebadoh and Amyl for me I think, maybe Morrissey if I have time but he’s a bit shit these days

I'll be on Sebadoh first (got tickets to see them in a few weeks) then maybe Honeyblood. I think I have a Guards album from a few years ago that I quite liked, if it's the same band, so I could check that out. Might be curious enough to listen to the Waterboys if there's time - not given them a listen in years, but there's probably a reason for that. I know I shouldn't, but I'll likely give the Morrissey a quick go at some point, out of sheer habit, despite him being a colossal wanker.

Thought this was moderately interesting - music is also killing us and destroying the planet. Is it time to fuck it off?

Interesting study! I'd guess it applies to most things we do online not just music streaming/downloading so, technically, this thread is killing the planet. All about carbon offsets really.

Guards' debut was out in 2013. Kind of poppy indie rock, which I really liked. I thought they'd split. Waterboys are very hit and miss now. To some degree, Mike Scott has dropped the folk thing and gone for a more soulful pop (ish) sound on the last album or two.

Thanks, yup, that's the one - just checked my server and I have In Guards We Trust from 2013 - very decent, so I'll add that to my list. I was curious about the Waterboys, because I've noticed they're touring over here, but the term roots rock sends shudders for me and I've seen it mentioned more than once in the blurbs - I guess This Is The Sea and Fisherman's, they are not.

As for the study, yeah all offsets. Wonder if he considered looking into the uptick in touring that the increased downloading/streaming has also supposedly caused, with a lot of bands saying they now only make money from touring and merch. Tour buses, flights, lighting, etc

Interesting article, thanks for sharing.

They also noted that downloading music from streaming services for offline listening could cut down on the energy it takes to get a song from the cloud to your ears.

I always download music and listen offline. Not because I was aware of the environmental impact, but just because I hate to rely on internet speeds/issues.

I don't see how people will stop streaming music, so the solutions will have to come from those who own these streaming music sites. Same as with cars, right? People aren't going to stop driving so the automotive industry had to make the cars more efficient. This will happen in the music industry as well. At least that's my opinion.

In other news, I am not a fan of Monsters and Men but that new song "Alligator" has great energy. I'm digging it.

N-side is superb.
Underworlds latest tune is superb anarl

As usual Bandcamp have some great stuff. A couple of recent purchases having been Thick Air’s Archéologie de Mars and Around the Sun by the always excellent Black Sand who is a must for fans of the more mellow side of Spacemen 3/Velvets.

I've won free tickets to All Points East this weekend to see the Strokes thanks to our new Chinese overlords Huawei (the lads). I'm more excited about seeing Fat White Family again than anything else! What a topper.

Will try to get a listen of Hayden Thorpe's record tomorrow. Have a feeling it might be shit based on nothing but his shit hair.

It’s going to be class I think. Not even arsed about the Strokes particularly. Parquet Courts, FWF, Viagra Boys

Anyway @Arkle missed the new Madonnatron album on his list.

On first listen the new Justin Townes Earle album is very good. Bluesier than the last one but still has that “very old fashioned but very cool” vintagey kinda vibe of his last record, which I don’t pick up in his earlier stuff.
