New football charter on club owners

In our position I am more interested in how they address the discrepancy between teams relegated from the EPL and those promoted from the EFL who dont have parachute payments they identified as an issue.

The only fair way I can see is to have a fixed increment depending upon league position from division 2 to premier which would also address the issue with the EPL funding the lower leagues. Fat chance the EPL agreeing to that though!

The Guardian's Football Weekly podcast has the FSA's Kevin Miles explaining the possible ramifications of the white paper.

Considering he's a mag, he's actually very articulate and his summary is clear and concise.

How can anything change now? They have waved through the Abu Dhabi takeover of City and the Saudi takeover of Newcastle so are in a position where they have to wave through a Qatar takeover of Man Utd, a Dubai takeover of whoever they fancy and on it goes. Too late to close the stable door now unless they force a sale of City and Newcastle and we know that’s not going to happen.

No doubt some owners of a league 2 club will get sanctioned while they clap like seals for the Arab states.

It’s a complex and murky world. Of course Saudi shouldn’t be allowed to buy British football clubs. No state should be allowed to buy football clubs, especially when they’ve all got their own very transparent reasons.

However, it becomes tricky for politicians of all sides to condemn wealthy nation partners when they rely on them for strategic and economic purposes in other regions of the world. Britain’s fairly weak international political and economic standing coupled with its highly valuable sporting product makes its institutions ripe for picking
The fact we've been "for sale" since the 70's is what makes us easy pickings. If a politician did condemn this sort of thing they'd gain a lot of respect imo. Current lot (on both sides) stand for nothing but themselves. Football is going to have to help itself and not get it from government. Sadly only way that will happen is if fans wake up from this addiction to money and get back to what made this sport great.

Our energy and water utilities are foreign owned. Gonna play devil's advocate and suggest that's a bigger issue than football clubs

Your second paragraph has hit the nail on the head.

Top and bottom of it

The article makes it clear that existing owners will be revetted under the new rules, and any failing will lose their licence to play, ie they's have to put the club into trust until they could divest.

Not ifI'm reading it right. To me it sounds like existing owners will be reassessed.

Bring it on. Might make a few back out if they can’t buy success
