New CEO appointed..

Davison and methven role haven’t been replaced, not their salaries, this is hardly a ground breaking appointment, in fact as he has come from such a stalwart and giant (no disrespect intended) of a league 2 club it looks and smell like we are a tinpot as ever

We are getting to that level. In a few years he will probably leave us for a club like Brentford and their fans will be asking why the fuck they are giving such a job to somebody from a club like Sunderland.

Our sad decline shows no sign of reversing.

Rodwell was on a huge wage at SUFC (circa £200k) and the majority of fans are glad to see the back of him.
I've met him. He speaks a good game and is supposedly well respected in football, but Iron fans certainly felt shortchanged given that you very little, if anything, has improved at the club during his tenure.
Also known as 'The Invisible Man'
Good luck

Huge for Scunthorpe. Way less than our FD, never mind CEO.
I wonder what this means for Dave Jones and Tom Sloanes as non exec directors too. Haven’t heard much from either of them aside Jones doing former player interviews which I’m assuming isn’t within his remit as a non exec director

Nothing, I'd have thought. What he will do isn't done by non-execs anyway. It means the whole board (including Donald) shouldn't need to get mixed up in day-to-day running, and do the more strategic stuff a board should be doing. I'd expect Rodwell to be made a director of SAFC, but not Sunderland.

I'm starting to hope football never comes back. Weekends will be shit for a while but at least I wouldnt have this f***ing club continually kicking us in the ballsack. This club is an utter embarrassment. Not been a shred of positivity for f***ing years, continual energy sapper

Went onto American football and rugby union for my sports fix now. Fed up of football.

Sounds like the club has been a bit of a captainless ship over this season. The owner(s) allegedly haven’t been seen much.
Putting someone in charge of the day to day running of the club was definitely something needed doing.
Alas, most people who’ve been put in important positions under Short and Donald have been extremely inept. It’s hard to have any hope that’ll change anytime soon.

Sunderland AFC, six times champions of England, two time FA Cup winners, top ten performing English clubs in history, being warned by Boston United supporters about the future of our club because we’ve appointed someone who wasn’t competent enough to run their club and manage their relatively modest expectations successfully.

And we’ve people, supporters and club reporters no less, saying ‘give him a chance’. It’s a sad, sad state of affairs. Got our club back though

a large portion seemingly did. But it’s sad that we’ve been so poor over the years that we welcome anyone in with open arms and treat them as messiahs when they arrive. And without scrutiny

A couple of points to make and to make it absolutely clear, this is in no way defending the current custodians of the club.

1) Was Mr Rodwell the number one candidate for the role? Has he been targeted or was the role advertised to the wider football community? Is he the main man that those at the top of the club want running the day to day ? Was he he on a shortlist, seemingly more likely given that despite the current position of the club and the team in the overall position of football, we should be able to attract a better/more high profile candidate than a, what looks like failed, CEO of Notss County, Scunthorpe and Boston United? If so, how far down the shortlist was he? Have we attempted to bring in, if any, more high profile/better/more successful candidate/s?

2) What does this mean for the future of the club regarding the ownership/takeover? Is Stewart Donald stepping back from the day to day running of the club which, presumably he has been overseeing as we are without a CEO/MD/DoF in place? Also, is this a short term appointment to oversee a handover to a new regime or an appointment by Mr Donald etc with a foresight of the current ownership remaining as per?
