New CEO appointed..

We gave Josy a chance. Will Grigg a chance. Parkinson a chance. Stew and Charlie a chance. James Vaughan a chance. Djilibodji a chance. Gareth Hall a chance. Jack Ross a chance.

if there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s giving chances.

I’d like to think we’ve learned from those chances and can now spot failure on the horizon
When you put it like that aye. I’d like to hope this new gadgie can have a positive influence, but looking a his past efforts I won’t be holding my breath. Truth be told I’m fed up to the back teeth with this shite. Good luck to him anyway. He’s going to need it.

People keep getting called bet wetters etc but are continually proven right. As you say, look at the people we're appointing and their track record. Its utterly, utterly embarrassing and tin pot. There's no point in having blind faith in people who are continually shown up for their poor decisions. It doesnt make you a better fan.

I just don't get what the "give him a chance" brigade expect on a message board tbh. None of us can see the future, so does this mean that when anyone joins, regardless of how unimpressive the rest of their career has been, we should just all comment "let's hope he does well"?

I see these places as a little bit like a pub, it's a group of people with a common interest having a chat. Any time a club signs a player, appoints a manager or brings someone into a key position fans will look at what they've done previously (however limited the info) and will say if they think he sounds any good. This doesn't mean we want him out, it just means the initial reaction is "last two clubs ended up in a lower league than when he came, fuck me that doesn't sound great when we're meant to be aiming upwards". It's a message board for comment, if people are underwhelmed then there's nowt wrong with commenting it, I'd rather say that and obviously hope that my initial reaction turns out completely wrong, as opposed to pretending to be happy or not to have an opinion. If people are optimistic about it then good for them, again just like a pub some will be happy, others won't, don't get why there's some desire to control the narrative from some.

Dont you dare use that f***ing, pathetic party line.

Give him a chance, it doesnt work like that man. You're meant to be an intelligent man but your love for Donald clouds your judgement. You wouldn't appoint a new accountant to your firm if the person has been part of 3 other firms who all failed each and every year. Financial issues, demotions etc.

Its not about giving someone a chance, its about looking at what they have done, can they do something differently here etc. This man clearly can not.

Sick of this bollocks me, clubs is going to the f***ing wall - But aye, give this failure a chance.
To be fair, @Grumpy Old Man has often been fairly critical of SD.

The expectations placed on him by Sunderland might be slightly more realistic and achievable. Getting Sunderland to the championship for example is much more achievable than Scunthorpe.

Not really. Scunthorpe are about a league one club - but had been in the championship. Under him they finished bottom of league one and were fighting relegation from league two.

SD should go on the record as to the reason for such an apt ! Given he is looking to sell what's the point ? How long is the contract ? Why would anyone take a job if we are to be sold ? SD should come clean on this
1 - We don't have a CEO or MD, we need someone to run the club particularly at a time of crisis
2 - See above, we can't just flounder and have no strategic planning even if a new owner would throw that out of the window
3 - Does it make a difference? Most execs are for 2/3 years, payoff would be negotiated if required (but probably agreed in contract as 1 year or something specific)
4 - Because he's moved from Scunthorpe in league 2 to Sunderland in league 1. Presumably a bigger cheque, higher profile, new owners won't necessarily sack him and if they do nice big pay off. He doesn't have a lot to lose and a ready made "they wanted their own guy" reason for leaving.

Just because Donald is looking to sell doesn't mean he should just let people leave (Davidson) and not replace them, that's the worst scenario for us as a club to just let things whither (insert your own joke about there being nothing worse). There's no guarantee of a deal or when no matter how much Donald wants it particularly given the current circumstances. I just wouldn't read too much into what this means about any potential deal other than it probably means one isn't happening imminently which would have been a massive surprise given the current uncertainty.

And I'm not defending Donald, I think the role needed filling asap. I have no problem with recruiting people with limited experience (Reid) or from lower leagues (Rodwell). However I do have a problem in that I don't see any evidence that they are on the way up, they developed the academy/club they were at or demonstrated any innovation.

So, he hasnt yet go his feet under the table and we have already decided he is no good?

Its the Sunderland way
To be honest mate, his record speaks for itself. You'd hope people earn jobs on merit and there's nowt on his CV that would merit him getting the job.

This is Inspector Clouseau levels of deduction, when the evidence was really clear who committed the murder but he decided it couldn't be the fit lass at fault.

They appoint a new CEO, the CEO leaves another CEO post to come here, and you think that signifies an imminent takeover?

Why would the club appoint a CEO pre takeover? Why would they bother, why would they pay him, and why would they risk having someone that someone else appointed?

Why would he sign on the dotted line, before there was certainty it would happen?
Not if it was imminent. As you have so eloquently and respectfully pointed out you think I’m wrong and I might be because I don't know. So might you Columbo cos you don’t either. We shall see Cato.
