New Birmingham Stadium - 60k+

Yeah forget just football . It will be used for other sporting events and concerts. Villa park is being used for concerts but let’s be honest it’s not really that kind of ground is it and is only really suitable for football games. Blues do have a bigger fanbase than some people realise they just don’t turn up. Cheap tickets would have to be a must, and if there was any kind of optimism around the team they might pull a few in but there would be thousands of empty seats still unless it’s a massive game. Villa would rarely fill a 60k so no chance blues will .

Just listened to the interview and tbf it sounds quite an exciting project. It’s interesting they mention the NFL in particular.

Fair play to their owners for showing ambition.

Unless they want to use Tom Brady to get an NFL franchise.

They won’t get a franchise mate but with the NFL global expansion work, they have a chance in landing regular matches.

I believe the Pats presently have Germany as their development area, but I wonder if Brady is hoping to change that

Wonder why they get such small crowds in such a big city? Even taking Villa into the equation that's a combined attendance of 70k in a city with a population of over 1mill.
A lot of clubs close by . The area has a lot of glory hunters supporting United and Liverpool and there’s 250k Muslims in the city which for most football isn’t their thing and if it is they follow the glory teams. It’s completely unlike Sunderland and Newcastle. Birmingham is so spread out and if you were in the city centre you wouldn’t think there’s a game on.

There is no way a franchise - if it ever happened and the time difference seems fairly high hurdle - would not be based in London.

The Spurs stadium is nailed on imo. The capital simply has too much pulling power and cash, particularly for the American
mindset.

I agree about a franchise mate. I also agree about Spurs being the nailed on NFL stadium going forward (even ahead of Wembley); but the NFL would love another U.K. stadium.

Oh aye, all of a sudden they are going to have success to tempt away Liverpool fans are they?

If they are planning on spending 3 billion on a stadium then they clearly have big plans for the club as well. 60k seems pretty sensible to men in that case.

I suppose as long as they don’t load the club with the debt let em get on with it. Location wise a 60k stadium in the second biggest city is ideal for concerts, boxing, and no doubt loads of other events outside of football. It’ll no doubt have allthe bells and whistles of concession stands and drinking spots so will make a decent amount outside of football.
Whether they could fill it football wise is anyones guess but I suppose if this mob are will to invest to grow the club and get em to the prem at some point there’s a load of revenue and new fans to be found there especially if it’s priced right.

But where does ambition stop and stupidity start?

From what I’ve seen today, it’s going to be a huge complex that goes beyond just football. It has huge potential to not just give the club a fantastic new platform to grow, but also improve the City
2-3 billion cost!!!

That'll cripple them, club will end up busy just like their council

I doubt the club will fund anything. It will be their owners

It sounds crazy and could very well end in disaster, but I think they would end up getting decent crowds with long term success and investment.

As soon as Brighton got a new stadium and ended up doing well in the Prem they averaged 30k out of nowhere. Appreciate their history is a little different with all the issues at the Withdean, but people are fickle and will turn up if there is some success. They also have a huge catchment area when you consider there is no modern day heavyweight in the region. I know Villa are a huge club and are doing well at the moment, but it's not like they've had consistent trophies or top level European football in the past 30-40 years.
Stopped reading at long term success ffs 😅

Yeah but running that size stadium in league 1 is never going to be profitable regardless of a few extra events. The debt will soon mount.
