Neil Oliver

Not been on the telly for a few years but had a book out and a live tour on the back of it in Autumn 19. Saw him in Bradford. Its just really odd. Comes across completely different in the clip to how he did in his documentaries etc
Must be the dodgy beard

Although it's patently obvious we aren't even at half time in this country with covid, the sentiment remains that there seems to be a contingent people that see the emergence of this new variant as an excuse to roll back to April last year

If you can ignore the drivel he spouts about this and politics, or (as I do) think of it as two different people in the one set of skin and bones, his historical programmes are superb. I wouldn't let what he says about other things get in the way of learning about history in an immensely good way.

Once I get over the shock of this side of him existing I'll probably still appreciate and enjoy his proper work. Hope he gets back to it soon and put this shite to one side.

While that may be true of a person in theory, Oliver's books at least are full of historical cliches long since debunked. I'm not surprised that he's gravitated towards populist nonsense given that his history is full of populist nonsense.

This is a brilliant send up of him

You may be right with his published works. I've only watched his documentaries.
Despite being the Face of Scottish Popular History, at least for a bit, he's not a Historian. Trained as a Journalist. All my Scottish History professors hated him. And one was an OBE so it's not like it was out of jealousy or anything. Its that Ripping Yarns sort of approach to history where the drama is more important than whether it happened or not.

Not even gonna ask what specialist degree has actual specialist Scottish history professors

I'd forgotten he existed but I used to like him

Dunno what controversial thing he's said like..can't be arsed

Degree finder.

Although most Scottish Universities do them. If you like Scottish history by someone who didn't even study it, you'd have your mind blown by someone who did I suspect.

Most Academic institutions do courses in the history of the country in which they are based, peculiar as you seem to find that
