1/3 beds in North tees are covid. Worst ratio in country though not as many going through to ICU. Sunderland royal and South Tyneside around 200 covid patients, more or less back at April numbers. Sunderland level increase last two weeks. BBC look north just now

Not sure if there's some form of system in place around here where Covid patients are being sent as the numbers are all over the place. It's as if they're being sent to specific hospitals to free other hospitals.

Newcastle NHS Trust - 56 (Peak: 146)
Gateshead - 18 (Peak: 141)
South Tyneside and Sunderland - 209 (Peak 211)
Northumbria - 102 (Peak 152)
Durham and Darlington - 129 (Peak 170)
North Tees - 200 (Peak 200)
South Tees - 82 (Peak 151)

That's all the numbers for all those who want to know. Source - Official UK Coronavirus Dashboard

Gateshead and Newcastle being extremely low but South Tyneside / Sunderland and Northumbria being higher doesn't add up though so maybe they trying to keep people together rather than having multiple hospitals filled. Similar with North / South Tees.

Bet the BBC ignored Gateshead, Newcastle and South Tees though as that's not newsworthy.

Makes sense, Gateshead ridiculously low.

Unless someone requires specialist care (cardiac, trauma etc) they will be taken to the hospital in the area they live by ambulance.

Gateshead and newcastle hospital numbers correlate with community case numbers

South tyneside and Sunderland was always going to be busy. South Tyneside has a rate of 326 compared to the rest of the north east. I know that South tyneside have been transferring patients to Sunderland because of covid cases being that high.

Think the bairn said that all but 2 wards have covid patients in them in shields.

I can’t talk for NE but here in West Yorkshire I get the impression that the private hospitals, where NHS appears to of bought all capacity are being kept clean and being used for routine treatment

It is grim and awful for families who are going through this but on a more positive note the proportion of people who are surviving is increasing due to knowing more about the virus and better treatment.

I don't want to be seen as showing off but I did warn this was where we were heading months ago

If the SMB knew this was coming how come DH didn't?

They’re doing this in other areas of the UK so maybe in the NE too

Those Gateshead and Newcastle figures are indeed too low though? Does imply there’s been some offsetting of Covid to other hospitals? Our case numbers are getting better every day relative to rest of the U.K., so hot to presume like back in March and April that almost everyone testing positive is ill?

Newcastle and Gateshead patients aren't being sent to other hospitals. The rise in hospital admissions is reflective of increased transmission and virus presence in those areas.

The modelling always showed that the North East would have a tough time but that we had enough capacity to cope with our own patients. The problem always was that the North West and South Yorks had a huge problem, and still do.

If HMG had acted in late September when I posed that original thread we could have had a short lockdown to buy time to develop local systems, and we would have been in T1 or T2 by now.

How many are in the nightingale hospitals?
Are they still available?

What so things are 4 times as worse in Sunderland and South Tyneside as they are in Newcastle and North Tyneside? Not according to the cases per 100K I’ve been looking at for weeks.

HMG acting too late seems to be a recurring theme, I’m personally sick of paying for their mistakes.

There was never any intention to ever use the nightingale hospitals. We don’t have the staff or facilities for them. Political pawns to make it look the government have a plan B. Pure propaganda.

Think we can safely say that this is the most incompetent bunch of f***ing fucktards we have had ever running this country.

They haven't got a bloody clue and boris just wants to be liked. I've seen better leaders on a under 7 football team.

Johnson is a weak leader who struggles to make difficult and unpopular decisions. A fair weather PM

It was an idea that was never properly thought out. Just like asking forumla 1 teams to make ventilators.
