National Glass Centre to move

Those saying it’s shoddy construction should probably wait until the reason it needs extensive rework is made known.

I worked on a job years ago where the privately owned building needed all residents to chip in a large chunk of cash because the sheet piled wall in front was beginning to fail due to accelerated low water corrosion.

The original contractor had no involvement in the sheet piled wall which was already in place and an assessment of the additional loading had been made on the assumption the sheet piled wall wasn’t subject to significant levels of corrosion (not within their scope of work).

It might be shoddy workmanship, it might not.

I will be interested in knowing what the reasons are.

The way its been explained its the roof, if you remember originally it was glass and you could walk on it and see through it.

That's fair enough but sounds like the uni have spent very little on the upkeep of the building.

Never did like that walk on glass roof 😂

Apparently from something I was reading it had £13m spent on a refurb back in 2013 ( ) although other reports suggest c. £2.3m ( )

It’s pointless, shit and overpriced.

Can we knock it down then just close it for good?
🤦🏼‍♂️🤷‍♂️ It’s a credit to Sunderland and get’s some very impressive exhibitions, with national attention. Will be a huge loss to the city. You would think the council would help the uni to find the funding to fix it, instead of finding the funding to build f*cking eyesore car parks.

There’s some very good people work there. Hope there’s no redundancies.

just nipped onto the Sunderland Council Corruption page on Facebook to see what the locals reaction is! 😂😂😂

Honestly, I’d be surprised if they could manage a working brain between them!

Its the building thats the problem not the actual place, it will get moved

That's a shame. Liked to pop in now and then or when there was something on I liked the look of.

Done the glassblowing a few times too and even managed to hold onto the Christmas decorations we made.

I suppose a more central location might increase footfall.
I agree it might be busier in the town centre
