National Glass Centre to move

Surely the builders are responsible? A new structure shouldn’t have less than a 30yr lifespan.
Probably had one year warranty.

It's easy to chuck a building up. Harder to come up with a plan and funding to maintain them. The more unique the design then often the harder the maintenance. As is here.

Unbelievable it's going to have to come down after such a short time.
Not sure who the Council are employing but you can add this one to the shoddy Aquatic Centre roof
Doesn't belong to the council

That's a shame. Liked to pop in now and then or when there was something on I liked the look of.

Done the glassblowing a few times too and even managed to hold onto the Christmas decorations we made.

I suppose a more central location might increase footfall.

Owned by the uni but crack on

Tyne and Wear Development company built it originally with uni taking over in 2010.

I had a look who built the glass centre and it’s Kværner construction which appear to be part of skanska who are on the biggest contractors in the world.

Acquatic centre built by Balfour Beatty one of the biggest contractors in the U.K.

People forget that the designs and construction are by private businesses and not the council / uni themselves.

That's fair enough but sounds like the uni have spent very little on the upkeep of the building.

Never did like that walk on glass roof 😂
