BBC Multiple arrests at Wear Tyne derby

Back in the 70’s it was regularly over a 100 arrests at a derby match , maybe as many as 200 at one time iirc.

Barely made a small column in the papers.

@Luna17 will have a copy of the Echo

And to think that the BBC actually has the brass neck to run a unit that advises kids how to avoid being misled by fake news and another one that evaluates claims that are made on the internet.

What we have here is just a lazy click bait headline that gives the impression that there was a significant amount of disorder at the match when the article below & the real facts present an entirely different story. I suppose that a headline reading "Only Eight arrests and almost no disorder" would receive little attention.

The BBC smugly claims to have high journalistic standards but there are endless examples that demonstrate that it clearly does not. One wonders why they have even bothered to give such an uninteresting story any prominence at all.

The BBC have been on a downfall for a long time in terms of the standards of journalism. All you have to do is tune into Look North to see that in effect.

Five of those arrested were apprehended around Sunderland's stadium.

The other three were arrested elsewhere as police carried out an "extremely successful operation", the spokesman said.

So no one arrested inside the ground and 3 of the 8 were arrested it seems no where near the ground - possibly at home addresses and possibly for unrelated matters

Indecent chanting, drunk and disorderly conduct and drugs possession were among the alleged offences that resulted in eight men being arrested, according to a Northumbria Police spokesman.

So no one arrested for violence or public order offences?

Were any of the 8 even going to the game?

The supposed "friendly" in Aug 81 was one of the worst. Under 11000 attended, but 80+ arrests, woman pc attacked and problems from midday to 5pm.

Did they tell the mag who had a pigeons head on all game ?
Bet they didn’t .
Seems like the club/stewards and police were instructed to clamp down on any anti Saudi stuff
Pretty remarkable when you think about it …free speech etc
It's called selective free speech
