Most Heartbreaking Goals Conceded

Van Dijk's last year.

Not only did Sunderland have 2 points snatched away from them, but it cost me £988 and as a student finishing my final year it felt like losing 5 grand.

Had west ham away at everton at 15/4 and stoke to draw away at chelsea. Plus easy ones like City to beat Villa and the mags to get taught a lesson by bournemouth. Would have been the perfect day if we would had seen that out.

emerson at roker park for the smoggies, cracking goal and id just back from bosnia on leave and it totally pissed off my entire leave that one did, smoggie prick!!

Possibly these three for me.
Football is a reet bastard at times like

Brian Deane. Upton Park. circa 2002

Zoltan Gera for WBA in the 15 point session. I'd got my first season ticket the season prior for Mick Mac's promotion campaign. I was about 13/14 and was a bit naive.

When that equaliser went in, I knew what heartache I was subjecting myself to forever.

All of Gillingham's in the play offs.
Charlton's normal time equaliser in the play offs.
Norman's bollock at Sheff Wed in the FA cup.

I remember that. Was a header from a corner. Agonising

Me dad says end of 1962/63 season. Tommy Hamer scored his only goal for Chelsea against us (0-1). Cost us promotion and Chelsea went up instead.

Cant remember the year but was early 90's and we drew sheff wed away in fa cup. At the time they were a top flight side and we were in the second division. We had kept them at 0-0 through some real good defensive performances and tony norman in goal. Last minute and game was dying out untill they put a hopeful long ball into box and norman came out to collect it but he dropped the ball and it wad tapped in. Was only a bairn at the time and was gutted all the way home. That stands out for me but in the big scheme of things has no real relevance.

The worst I can think of are:

Walsall at home around 1988. They were bottom and hadn't won away all season. It was around March and they came to Sunderland and won 3 nowt. Fairly sure they were pinging 'em in from 25 yards. And, it was drizzling and misty, unless my me mind is playing tricks on me. Every one of those 3 goals absolutely sickening and it was the first time I thought what the fuck am I doing with my life spending my time following these 'round the country.

Chelsea away cup 1992 Monday night. My boss, Mag from Yorkshire, said you're not going. Said I f***ing am like and I'll need the time off to get down. He said you'll be out of a job if you do. Went anyway, time off given or otherwise; and knew I'd be on the dole when I got back. Went 1 down as per usual and thought what a f***ing mug, giving up jobs for these.

Mags away '90 league match. Just gutted when they equalised.

Cambridge away 1992. Got beat 3 nowt didn't get out of our half. On a par with Walsall at home. I grew up with tales of SAFC in the '50s and the way uncles went on you'd think we were Barcelona. It was probably this game when I realised we'd never amount to very much at all.

FA Cup 4th round January 1984 at home to Birmingham. 1-0 up with about 5 mins to go lost 2-1. Think Harford may have scored for them, can remember it being foggy as fuck and just hearing and catching glimpses of Birmingham Zulus :D My first taste of us snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
