I lived in Saltburn (briefly)which is a nice place and I still have a very good friend that lives there. In 2002 the problem with child sex offenders was so bad people would not let their kids play out in the street. Attempted abductions were an almost weekly occurance. Nothing like that goes on in Sunderland.

As for it all harking back to the Dr Higgs carry-on, I don't think it does. I remember people making comments relating to such things BEFORE the Cleveland abuse case.

All that aside, why do Boro have such shit support? Not just the pathetic numbers but the songs. It's always been the same as well, certainly since the 70s anyway and my old fella says you were abysmal since the 40s.

its not that bad,population of wearside is 3 times that of teesside,when did you ever get 3 times as many?
sunderlands and newcastles support has been poor in the past too.96-97 you were in the premier and yet couldnt fill roker park which only held 22,000.
last time sunderland went down you lost 12,000 overnight.
the lowest top flight crowd in the north east wasnt at mbro or even sunderland but further up the road.i have alot of time for sunderland fans(unlike the big time charlies up your road)so not having a go.i said as much about sundays especially when you look at evertons 25k.
its just a smaller place thats all

they are,the toals are for child abuse,if you look at those for sexual abuse its 30 in sunderland,25 in durham and 10 in middlesbrough.

those are from 2010 but are the most up to date available to the public
