Milan Aleksic - Confirmed

Send the fringe players out on loan to the champo, we’re more likely to be in that league again in 12 months.

We can then play them in the championship or sell them if we stay in the prem.

Or if we’re still in the prem and they were outstanding in the championship then integrate them into the 1st team squad.

I’m sure that each player will be evaluated thoroughly.

That may be right. But why then wasn’t he given game time in the U21’s to help both his development and his acclimatisation to English football ? Sitting on the bench week in week out has not helped him one bit.
Maybe they thought training and being with the 1st team is what was best for him?
I'd back their judgement tbh, they seem to know what they're doing

Have we learned nothing from Mayenda? He wasn't bought for this season only
Mundle as well, didn't get much of a look in until Clarke was away.

Depends who we bring in. Obviously plenty of players surplus to requirements but with the rest we need squad depth one way or another. There's a balance to be struck between having players around knowing they're unlikely to play unless there's an unlikely pile up of injuries/suspensions and letting go out to play first team football.

Le Bris did use him at times. The fitness of Rigg and Jobe as well as the fact he was still adapting to the UK (learning English?) meant that he didn't have very many opportunities.

Personally I think that we will likely keep him as an option off the bench next year.
Because we are such a young team we forget that he is only 19 and thus is about where'd you'd expect him to be in terms of the first team. When he did have opportunities he looked very good at times and not quite ready at others.

Like we aren't going to be going out and buying a while new squad- so we need to be realistic and hope that Aleksic is a mayenda/mundle type signing.

Last summer the consensus on Mayenda was that he wasn't good enough, couldn't get in Hibs'.team and was even worse than Hemir.
Even into that start of this season people were arguing Mundle wasn't good enough.

There is a vast difference between a 19 year old player and a 20 year old player, so you would assume that Aleksic wouldn't have been a mainstay on the bench (often in front of Ba and Aouchiche) unless Le Bris considered him to be of some tactical value.

I mean U21 level is shite, he was playing at a higher level before he came to Sunderland. He also played nearly 700 first team minutes before he signed for us in the 24/25 season.

You see so many failing to step up from that level so I don't really see how it acclimatises anyone to English football.

Bennette played all the time for the U21s he's now barely playing for a shite Ukranian side.

Being in and around the first team is definitely a better use of his time. Just cos Reg is a stubborn bugger when it comes to subs doesn't mean he's not developed. He played more for first team football for Sunderland in 24/25 than Mayenda did in 23/24 combined for Sunderland and Hibs.

He is 19 and was adapting to a new country/environment.

Anybody writing him off completely based on last season is mad, I think. I thought he did quite well whenever he did play, sometimes out of position.

I would have liked him to get more time for the U-21s but there's definitely a player there. Presume we'll have a look in pre-season and then see if he's likely to be involved or if a loan would be better.

It’s difficult to judge the lad really as he’s still a teenager and has had to adapt to a completely different culture and language. That must have had some impact on the lad last season. The idea of sending him out on loan here would also have him begin that process again. I think he will stay here and I have a good/gut feeling that he will be the next one to shine through alongside the striker Abdullahi if that’s how it’s spelt. He looks a decent prospect too.

He never got a chance in his position I don’t think. By chance I mean 5-6-7 games. Yes he got a game in the cup. Half v Stoke in league etc but often out of position and often games not even close together

Mental this idea of signing a young foreign player, developing him over time in the hope de becomes a first team regular.

Wonder if other clubs have ever done this?

I don't think Regis trusts him with the off the ball stuff. That's something that can be taught though. Regis likes off the ball stuff.
