Michelle Carter - Death By Text

If those texts are genuine that's f***ing horrible. The poor bloke blatantly isn't convinced about killing himself and all he needed was for her to give him some support.

I remember reading during the case that she was apparently "frustrated" because he'd often planned to kill himself and hadn't done it, fuck sake if that annoyed her so much she should have just walked away from him, not tried to convince him. Sending those texts is f***ing disgusting and I hope she gets a f***ing long sentence. The earliest ones are the worst, he's obviously trying not to talk about it and just wants a normal conversation, she just won't let it go. I really wish he had someone else close to him who he could have talked to, and who could have seen those texts and told the bitch to fuck off. Poor, poor bloke

yeah, i read similar, supposedly she wanted him to do it so she could have the attention and sympathy from everyone.

Makes me feel sick reading that. He definitely wasn't sure and I'm sure he could have been talked out of it and help sought. Vile lass

Followed the story for a while. Read somewhere that she struggled to make friends and wasn't very popular in school. Thought that she would get sympathy and be easy to keep friends if her lad killed himself. Sick in the head

The verdict stunned many legal specialists because suicide is generally considered, legally, to result from a person’s free will.

Daniel Medwed, a law professor at Northeastern University, said the decision surprised him because the manslaughter charge seemed “a stretch” to begin with. Because Ms. Carter was not at the scene, and Mr. Roy ultimately acted alone, he said, it was difficult to prove she “caused” the death.

Ms. Gertner of Harvard said that likely grounds for appeal would be that the verdict had “extended the law of involuntary manslaughter to an arena into which it hasn’t been extended before — the notion of liability with respect to a suicide for someone who failed to act, who wasn’t present, who didn’t provide the instrumentalities for the suicide and the concept of a failure to intervene are all unique and that’s what would be litigated.”
