I'd absolve Ally. Yes, he's effusive about the Mags when he's on co-commentary duty (part of his job). But he's very much in our corner and still loves Sunderland. In December, I was at Gary Rowell's funeral in Burnley and quite a few former players made the trip to be there.
Ally was there, he'd driven himself (presumably from London or Scotland) and spent some time before and after the service in deep conversation with his old team mates. His affection, not only for SAFC but Wearside generally is well known.

He was offered to the mags but they were in the thrall of spending big and being sky's bitches ... hence bridges had more of a chance of making it here

I found it disappointing. Loved him as a player for us. Could understand him favouring Leeds over us but he looks like he has no affinity with us whatsoever. Very few ex Sunderland players would be that miserable about us scoring that winner. Maybe Lee Clark but at least he has always been open about it.

I watched the game in the USA and he was commentating with Conor McNamara and he was very positive and complimentary about our performance and how our midfield changed the game second half

The lad's from Whitley Bay isn't he? Must have some affinity with Newcastle. Then again, if you're growing up as a young lad playing matches every weekend instead of watching, you're not gonna have that same passion for any club.

Seems to be an almost daily thread on Bridges

Always happy to chime in on them and repeat myself as well. Great player, excellent pundit / co-commentator. He does a lot of the co-commentary for the broadcasters used in Australia. He clearly has warmth towards Sunderland as a club, for its supporters and its current team. But he isn’t excitable or overly partisan towards any team he’s covering; which is kind of his job and what makes him good.
