I think the Spurs thing suited the narrative when he got some success here and it became known where he was from. He may well have liked Spurs as a kid but that was probably down to ex-Mags Gascoigne and Waddle playing for them. As others have said he's maybe just a bit more professional than others (like Colback) so plays the Newcastle support down so he can get gigs covering Sunderland games or discussing the NE teams on Look North. The reaction says it all though he's still trying to not give too much away.

He's an absolute plank. His continued insistence that Adingra should have been sent off when we played Leeds at home for his tackle on Rodon is honestly one of the most batshit bits of commentary I've ever heard.

I was with Venison dad the day he was travelling up to sign for the Mags ,we had a weekend planned down Southport all Stanley lads to meet Vena and few other Liverpool players . Davy Venison stood up in the bus on the way down and told everyone his Barry was travelling up to Newcastle to sign for them .

There's loads of footballers that make millions and end up bankrupt, let alone just not rich. Whether through lack of financial nous, predatory "financial advisers", or just not realizing that one day you will come to the end of a contract and stop earning £40k a week and start earning nowt.
