It's double edged sword really, particularly for a batsman. I was playing Lancashire League cricket at 16 and it was too early to be often facing international bowlers. I don't think I got above 30 in my first season and most weeks was out for single figures when I really needed time at the crease to develop my technique. It can be done of course but you need to be bloody talented!
