Mental Health - positive things to do

I know we have plenty people on the forums who already suffer from depression and stress, and I really feel for them.

Personally, I am normally pretty upbeat and have no issues, but like I am sure the vast majority of people are can't deny being a bit downbeat at the moment.

It's hard to switch off from things when everytime you turn on the radio/tv/internet, read an email, or even visit a forum like this you are bombarded with all of the negative news.

However, enough of the negatives, what I want this thread to be is a way to discuss all of the positive things people are doing to help take their mind of things, whatever it is. Stick to the positive and uplifting things please, no negatives.

What can we all do to feel happier?

Examples;
Reading more books, listening to music, watching films, playing games, exercise , walking by the sea etc etc.

There must be loads of activities which help.

Yes it's becoming a major issue even for people who don't normally have these challenges,

Everyone will be experiencing intensified levels of emotional stress. People worried about their families, jobs, children, huge upheavals in schedule and lifestyle. It's a nightmare.

So to make it positive? I've been taking up a range of new hobbies to pass the time whilst I am now stuck in the UK.

Working on my language skills

Going on long walks to areas with few people etc

I’ve had a terrible time this last year with my mental health, failing in my teacher training then being unable to walk into work due to anxiety. However I feel now that my problems have suddenly become insignificant. Obviously that’s just me and others may be completely different, but my outlook now is that I’m fortunate enough to be young and in good health, physically fit and have a young family to support through this utterly shit time in world history. And if I can help other people out in any way I can, I will.

;)Wanking more:cool:

You know what, on Weibo (chinese version of twitter) many people whilst they were stuck at home openly posted they were turning to Pornhub

So they made the premium service free for people in China (and now Italy).

I'm painting, reading and doing housework. I'm going to hopefully have the bairns baby Yoda / mandalorian pic finished soon for him 😎.
I'm currently signed off with anxiety and depression, back on meds and feeling pretty scared. I will be trying to perhaps do some self help exercises too, maybe even look at learning something new.

Honestly just walking lifts my mood and calms me. So simple but really is the greatest.
It really is one of the best "therapies". My daughter had some pretty significant mental health issues for a number of years.

We used to go on fairly long walks and I would watch the anxiety and tension drain out of her and we could then have some good conversations about how she was feeling, how we could help her.

I'm planning on heading out for a walk later today once I've finsided work. I'm a natural worrier, one of the good things about the current situations is that I've stopped warrying about work as much as I normally do. I'm now just worrying about life generally.

Anyway, back to work. I'm having Neil Young accompany me this morning, he's up to side three of Decade.

It truly is the best. You're able to choose how long you want the walk to be, where you want to go and it just gives a sense of productivity. Despite having all the time to think while you walk my thoughts tend to lean towards positivity than worry. Which is odd because when at home it is mainly the opposite.

Walking, putting my phone on do not disturb and just relaxing to music. Simple, but works wonders for forgetting your worries and getting exercise.

Writing, as can be seen on here, is a very creative process. Even writing down nothing more than what's on your mind can make a difference.

I have found that setting little challenges, such as picking a random object like a radiator or printer or something, and writing a 300 word story around it, can get the endorphins going. A really good story and it's dopamine!

Well played the gaffer.

In me own way I've been trying to remind/encourage people to remain calm and make light of a bad situation but given a few debates I don't think that's come across too well.

Sewing, baking, reading, catching up with stuff I’ve recorded and not had time to watch. Things like portrait artist of the year on sky arts are fascinating to watch especially if, like me, you have zero artistic talent. Walking the dog. Sorting out things I’ve been putting off for ages. The house is going to be much better organised in a few weeks! Getting to grips with the weeds in the garden. We’re going to try doing our book group on Microsoft teams this month - we usually meet in a pub and we’ve met nearly every month for the last 20 years. Generally keeping busy really.
