Mayenda

Don’t think reg fancies him, doesn’t fit in as a winger with how we have set up lately, cant really lead the line on his own in the prem or Europe.
Could see him moving and really pushing on though, bundles of raw talent and he deserves to make step up elsewhere imo.

Be a big shame that IMO.

Plenty of extra games coming up next season, he's still very young and has an excellent G/A record in terms of minutes played.

Has done okay at CF this season and had a superb game against Manchester City on the wing. Bags of talent and potential there and is doing well with Spain's U21's.

That said, I could understand if he wants away. He probably needs and wants to play consistently and it's not going to happen here now.

Wish him all the very best if he does go. He played a massive part in getting us back to the PL and helped set the tone for our season with his opener at West Ham. Plus, he has one for the best ever chants!

He’s a Spanish u21 international. If he wants to go to play then fair enough, if it’s our choice, then I trust the recruitment bods.

I’d keep him, love how raw he is and think he will have one season where he tears it up. Could happen any time.

If we’d gotten into the conference league, I think he would’ve been a decent option against some of the “lesser” sides in that competition.

Pretty much everyone we’ll face in Europa will be decent so we won’t be able to put out a weakened team.

It’s a testament to how far we’ve come, just from my observation, seems reg was trying different things last quarter of games with next season in mind, mainly too see what we might need next season…obviously it’s worked out like it has and we’ve got in to Europa.

Very talented players will leave Sunderland and again it’s testament to how far we’ve come that some of these player aren’t getting many minutes for us.

O'Nien came out first with his kids followed by Mayenda on his own. O'Nien rejoined the rest of the squad but Mayenda stood in the centre circle on his own for ages away from the rest of the squad. It made sense for O'Nien to lap up the applause given he was there from the start / Mr Sunderland thing but I did wonder if one or both of them were saying goodbye.

Looks like he could potentially be off. Noticed him waving with both hands and wanted media to get some photos of him alone in front of the fans.

His agent saying 'last dance'. Probably going to struggle to get games for us again next season

I mean we will have a lot more games next season. And he is very young still. Id hope he'd stay.

There was talk we’d had a €25m + Mayenda offer for Victor Munoz turned down by Osasuna in January. They wanted closer to his €40m release clause. There’s talk that Real might exercise their buy-back option this summer - either to keep in the squad or sell on for profit (Villa and Mags also linked). If he’s going to be sold, you’d imagine we’d be near the top of the list with Europa on offer.

Mayenda is clearly highly rated in Spain to be in the u21 squad so I could see us trying to use him as a makeweight again either for Munoz or a similar highly rated La Liga player this summer.

Here’s the echo article that picked it up at the time -

pretty unprofessional caption from his agent if indeed it looks like he might be off, nothing is actually done yet and it’ll be up to the club and on their terms, not him.

Not only once but twice. First time was straight after the game, then he done it again about 20 mins after.

With the World Cup looming the window might be a bit odd in tbere being a lot of early business and then a gap until after the tournament.

I expect the club to be ruthless they will want us to do well again in the league and above a decent run in Europe. We will bring in players for sure and I can also still see us selling at least one of our better players for serious wedge which will free up funds for the summer splurge. It’s modern football for a team like ours you don’t keep all your better players sadly.

looked miserable on the photos. Really feel for the lad he's not kicked on

i'd keep him for the Europa League though and if it doesn't look like we're progressing in it, loan him out in January

Be plenty of eyes on him in the EL

We need at least one new striker. Id rather keep hold of Wilson.

I love Mayenda but like lots of the promotion side we have outgrown his level currently and if the trajectory continues it's likely it'll stay that way. He is a young lad and needs to be playing football.

He is still on an upward projectory … lack of game time is problem which makes a loan the solution
