Given it a go despite not being fit! Trying to support Cook and help bring through the newer players?

He should have gone but not in this way, it's undigifined for a player who has been a loyal servant to England (although I've never been a fan) . Should have been made before the series not half way through.

They put down buttler saying he wasn't ready and now he comes in when the pressure is on.

Pushed out? Hardly. If they wanted him out they would have dropped him - they've done it twice before. Why does there always have to be a conspiracy?

He will be back in the Sussex 11 soon, scoring runs against crap attacks, and back in and England shirt for the winter tour

Depends how Buttler gets on these next three tests I'd think.

Next series is a while off, Windies in March?
 
remember alec Stewart taking a break from the game for a while for similar reasons at a similar time then coming back for a few years afterwards. Not saying Prior is the same, but wouldn't be unprecedented.
 
Seems odd to specify he's out for whole summer, rather than just out until he's fit enough again.

Unless they're certain it'll last at least 2 months...

There's only 3 more test matches over a 4/5 week period and he's going to have an operation on his Achilles so I think it's fair to say he'll be out for the rest of the summer. Pointless rushing back to play a few games for Sussex if he's having an Achilles op, letting a ripped muscle heal and somehow un-mashing his hand. Sounds like he's a physical wreck and just needs to get away from it all for 6 months for the good of his career. Credit to him for fighting on for the team but he's probably taken it at least 1 game too far.

He's been a really good player for England and it's been sad to see his demise over the last year or so, he shouldn't be remembered like this (if this is the end of his England career). I don't think there's any way he'll get back in the ODI team, Buttler's the man in possession there and I reckon Kieswetter would be next on the rank in that format, Prior's had plenty of chances.
 
another example of pathetic management by moores and cook. prior was clearly unfit during the sri lanka series, which would have been a decent place to blood buttler in tests. buttler was coming off a fantastic innings v sri lanka, had a point to prove after being mankadded, only for the captain to state he was not ready. he could have played then to allow prior to get himself sorted

i have lost all faith in cook. he was a brilliant player but has been found out, his mentors, gooch and flower are gone, and he will gain nowt from moores, saker and this total nonity farbrace.

farbrace was employed to give an insight on sri lanka. the result of that was our first home series defeat ever v them
