Has stood down from test cricket for the rest of the summer due to fitness issues. Told the players after the end of today's play.

Step up Jos Buttler.
 

Going to be confirmed by Prior himself on The Verdict any minute.
 
The right decision. His batting has been poor and this achiles problem is now affecting his keeping. Hope he gets back to form and fitness and pushes for a recall. Would assume Buttler is the obvious replacement?

Has to be after his call up to cover Prior. Then again, it was only last month that Cook said he wasn't ready.
 
I'm sceptical tbh if his injuries are so bad why on earth has he played these 2 tests.

Imo he's been pushed out(not that I'm bothered)
 
Said it on the match thread but just to echo those words...

Prior has been a great servant for us and I'm sad to see him go. In hindsight, he probably should have gone after the tour down under.

To be fair, it's been obvious throughout this and the Sri Lanka series that he isn't fit. He isn't as agile and mobile diving to his right and his footwork when batting has also suffered. He's been taking pills on field and having a lot of treatment off it to try and manage this problem. It's just not to be.

Then why did cook praise him to the hilt earlier if this was coming. Another one pushed out and used as a scapegoat trying to deflect from cook and moores.

He should have gone but not in this way, it's undigifined for a player who has been a loyal servant to England (although I've never been a fan) . Should have been made before the series not half way through.

They put down buttler saying he wasn't ready and now he comes in when the pressure is on.

England Cricket is becoming like a Mafia and Godfather Cook is getting rid of those no longer any use to him - Trott, Swann, KP and now Prior. Bell must be shitting himself.
