You are correct, just checked my insurance cert and it has these terms:I don’t think you’re reading the small print then mate. It’s a question every insurer asks.
It’s basically due to the exact scenario that’s happened in this thread
If you’re ringing to insure a car that’s impounded in the insurance companies eyes it looks like you’ve already been caught driving without insurance and are trying to cover your back and/or you’ve got a conviction pending so they wouldn’t go near it.
Not many if any companies will cover you to take a car out the impound. I think there’s only specialist insurers do it
Any points he gets now won’t impact his insurance until renewal anyway so pointless ringing insurer now about it for the people suggesting that.
Also pointless suggesting changing the start date as his certificate/ schedule specifically states not to be used to release a car from impound so the impound won’t accept it anyway
The policy does not cover:
Use for hire and reward.
Use for any purpose in or by the motor trade.
Use for racing, competitions, rallies, trials, track days or off-road events.
Use to release any vehicle that has been seized by (or on behalf of) any government or public authority, unless the vehicle matches this registration mark above and was seized during the effective cover dates of this insurance.
