I am also not a fan of Saka he look nervous on the ball today and gave up a big chance to Hungary
 

I haven't seen a huge amount of Mount but I've never seen him be anything but ok. I think at Chelsea he has Kante who makes everyone around him look amazing. He won Danny Drinkwater a PL medal ffs.

What's wrong with that exactly? If everyone passed forwards there'd be nobody left to pass to!

I don't watch England games so can't comment on those specifically, but I know they have the likes of Kane, Mount and Sterling. Kane likes to drop deep, Mount is a workhorse (and very clever with his off the ball movement) and Strerling is rapid. So for me you need to work the ball up to Kane, who will drop into attacking midfield, and this should trigger the likes of Sterling and Mount to burst forward (especially if Kane has dragged defenders with him). He lays it off to the likes of Grealish and he picks the passes through to the runners exploiting the space and using their own pace/work rate.

There's a name for it, something like forward, back, through. Maybe Declan Rice should play as a deep-lying forward...

Grealish would be more of a roaming playmaker, I guess.

Kane need to stop coming deep and using the space that should occupied by the like of Mount, Foden etc.

The play is getting so congested in the middle that it’s affecting Mounts performance.

Admittedly Mount isn’t in the best form but the dynamic of the England team isn’t helping.
 
I like all these young England players including Mount, I’m having my doubts though as to whether Southgate is ultimately the man to get the best out of them as a team.
Mount seems to be untouchable he was anonymous last night.
Grealish got himself more on the ball and was trying to effect the game and it was him who was brought off, I didn’t get that.
Also Kane and Sterling were a waste of time.

In a game which we pretty much dominated and lacked cutting edge, I don't think his presence was needed in midfield. A midfield two of Henderson and Foden would have been better.

And the "few tackles" is (IMHO) what Southgate sees in him and why he stayed on when Grealish went off.

Phil Foden has never played central midfield in his entire career.
 
Wasn’t great last night but he’s a quality player I think and would be in and around my team definitley

What was frustrating last night was him taking grealish off. He looked one of if not our best player. He could have took Sterling off who had one of his poorer games but he just always goes for grealish. If anything after the 60th minute we looked worse. I’d have kept the same team for another 15 minutes before making any changes

Been asking the same question for months. Only the commentators seem to think he is gods gift the same as Tammy Abrahams.????. Grealish has more talent in one foot than Mount and give me Saka or Foden any day.

Agreed mind, Grealish is starting to irritate me going to ground every time he's touched. I know its part of the game but its too much imo

Absolutely mate and he does draw a lot of fouls in dangerous areas but he seeked to be going to ground even more last night
