Marc Guiu - Boomerang Transfer confirmed

Concerning that he looks exactly what he is...a young kid, with promise.

He's not the 'ready to hit the ground stiker' we desperately need. God forbid if Mayenda picks up a knock - we are really short up top.

Can't judge him yet given the time off he had for the club world cup. It's natural that he's a bit behind the others. Yes, his touch was poor, he was slow and he didn't look great, but it was 90 minutes that he badly needed and he still stuck the ball in the net with a rare chance. Needs to improve but he can't be match fit yet. If he's like this in a month then aye, it's time to worry

That's the thing, as with Mukiele and Masuaku, he's had pretty much no pre-season. All three will come on from last night.

Exactly that. I know it's an in joke here about the pre season thing but he had an extended break because of the club world cup. On top of that, he barely played in it, he got a total of 39 minutes, all in the group stage. He played 3 minutes against Betis. Looking at it, he hasn't had anything approaching a full game since 60 minutes against Shamrock and 78 against Astana in December 24.

From February to May he was out with a hamstring injury so he's had that then he's played 49 minutes of football (club world cup and brief appearance v Burnley) in the past 7 months, on top of starting pre season late.

Like with any signing I was watching him hoping he'd be outstanding and have me confident we're going to stay up. With him it's genuinely not realistic at this stage. I do wish we'd got a more established striker (not that there's many about) but Barca wanted this lad to stay, Chelsea were determined not to allow a future transfer fee, and our recruitment team think he can be our number 9. Of all the signings, given the above, he's the one we should least jump to judge, there was never much chance that he'd come in at his best.

I must admit I was hoping for a bit more from him last night. Purely because he comes here with a good reputation and he was up against a League one team.

But he still scored on his Sunderland debut and hopefully with a few more games he will find some sharpness.

Rada Prica also scored on his first start.

Watching him last night, you would think he may have put himself about a bit more on his debut.
Movement & touch seemed off.
Hoping to see alot more from him in coming games.
Another forward who may not be PL ready?
You could level that at Rigg last night. Rigg was injured and didn't have a pre-season, hence his rustiness. Guiu, likewise, had a disruped pre-season, yet he scored.

If they're good enough, they're old enough.

Look at Liverpool's Rio Chima Ngumoha. He's gonna get minutes and goals this season. He's not quite 17. Already has the skill. attributes and strength to play men's football. Way ahead of Rigg in development.

On the upside his positioning was good scored one and neary scored another one from in and around the six yard box - also the pen shout which I thought was marginal. We don't get enough players in the box generally so that aspect of his game was promising.

What is his expectation though? Scores 10-15 this season and it will be ideal.
Only seven players scored more than 15 goals last season in the PL – all experienced pros (Salah, Haaland, Mbuemo, Wood, Wissa, Watkins and Wantawaystriker©).

There's no way anyone should be expecting him to do that. He's had next to no pre-season and little to no game time since last December, let alone in the PL.

I think a lot of people need to adjust their expectations of this lad. He can contribute in other ways beyond goals (esp. hold up play). That's the expectation.

So 10-15 goals? Nah. Of course if he does, what a bonus that would be. But it won't and shouldn't be expected.
