Cracking news!

First comment on the local group from capslock JON about illegal delivery drivers on bikes.
The best (worst) comment was when a story broke about a couple who had gone missing after staying at a hotel in Washington, someone had said something along the lines of “I know illegals all stay in hotels so people need to look into this”

There’s wide spread hysteria and hate going about and it’s largely unchecked.

The Just Eat downsize is a significant one mind. They were operating out of 212,000 sqft at West Rainton and now moving into 18,000 - wonder how many staff they have retained

There was an indication they were still keeping some space at rainton as well not sure if thats still the case

Get plenty of shitty comments on Nextdoor about the city centre. Every bit of work going on is apparently set to be"student" accommodation, with responses being as you'd expect.

One guy kept posting and reposting he'd spoken to one of the workers knocking down the old Argos building and it was set to be student accommodation. Every time I challenged it, saying it was set to be offices and the new building would be designed with access to St Mary's Boulevard in mind, he'd say I was wrong, why would they build a new building just to face the road, he'd spoke to the guy working there and I knew nowt blah blah blah.

In the end there was an article about the plans posted online that shut him up, but it's just typical of people who'd rather spread bad news rather than accept something good might be happening.

I’ve heard there’s a very well known software company close to agreeing to take one of the buildings. Don’t know if it’s all signed yet so won’t say the name - but it’ll be great if true.

(Different to Just Eat).
Wont surprise me its a great spot ultra modern and will be very affordable comparatively speaking

Even if there is student accommodation springing up in the city centre I don't see the negative. Having students helps increase the footfall. Students spend money aswell, I know my daughters a student and she's always out

I worked at rainton in that building for years for npower , it's absolutely massive and really needs to be split up.

from google

With 18,000 square feet of office space, you could comfortably accommodate between 120 and 180 employees depending on the office layout and work style. A good rule of thumb is to allow 100-150 square feet per employee.

I think the vision is to move a lot of jobs from rainton and doxy park to the city. Obviously most customer service has downsized as things get more automated but there are still plenty of jobs. Companies can be tempted to move as their leases expire.

Sure there was a decent gaming software company based in Sunderland, great if something like them. Surprised how many software companies in Sunderland, the council ran a "from ships to clicks" campaign which highlighted how much the city is trying to move into newer industries.
