The thing I don’t understand, and you may know the answer, is why he and his agent didn’t just wait until the summer and move on a Bosman? He’d have more options in terms of clubs and more than likely would stand to earn more money for himself and his agent in wages and signing on fees (Bordeaux could have given him an extra £1m to sign in the summer instead of giving us £1.5 to £3.5m now for example).

Did his agent lack faith in him that he could continue his form so thought his stock had peaked and best to cash in now?

Million dollar question that I think. Probably the latter mind as if it did drop his stock would have declined.

I’m still gutted by it, I’d have preferred him to have left in the summer but there’s no guarantee he would have continued in effort or performance or what the crowd’s reaction would have been to him if he hadn’t signed a contract, particularly if he’d gone through a dry spell.

The club would’ve still been looking to bring in Grigg, Leadbitter and presumably Morgan anyway. With Maja as well that would give us pretty formidable options. Not much anyone could’ve done about it though once he’d cleared out his locker apart from look for the best possible deal.

I think the club handled it wrong and it shouldn’t have went public, agents will be lookin at us negatively.

I would have tried to get him back on loan and I think the Grigg, Leadbitter and Morgan would be be better than keeping Maja.

I liked him as a player, but he limits us tactically.

He hasn’t moved on with the thought of bettering his career in his head, he’s moved for the money, not decrying him for this but lets not try and fudge the facts.

What makes you say that? Bordeaux's average salary is 11k p/w. If rumours were correct he rejected close to that from us? I would be surprised if he was made one of their higher earners and isnt on around their average salary. Why on earth would he want to play in League 1 when he could play in Ligue 1 with a huge chance of Europe. This was so obviously a footballing move. Especially when you look at the likes of Sancho, Nelsen and the numerous other British players leaving the country. Do people actually think we are better/offer greater opportunity than Bordeaux?

I think people probably look at it more as though he would be better of staying here and playing and scoring week in week out like he has than going there because they think he would even play, which could be true considering the managers comments so it looks like the 1 million quid kicker is the motivation.

Playing in Ligue 1 is obviously better than playing in league 1, however I’m not certain not playing at all is better than playing in league 1. The player could of course see if totally differently and have confidence that he will play for them (and I think he will break into their side but not for a while, if at all this season).

The move itself is an odd one because Bordeaux don’t seem to have ever heard of him prior to his signing and his agent didn’t want him to go there.

Bordeaux really need to stick him in quickly if they are wanting him to continue his form, if he sits on the bench for weeks on end, his confidence will drop and I'm not sure they'll get the same player that has just left us.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with him but I suggest that their manager has a good look at what he's done for us over the past few month as he clearly didn't have a clue about the Maja this time last week.

He has reportedly received £1M signing on fee, enough said.

I fully expect the lad to be back in England (probs Championship/League 1) within 18 months. Another move, is obviously good for his agent as well

He sounds really excited on his revealing to Bordeaux at press conference. Really apathetic, along with the club. Sounds like the manager knows nowt about him and he will be a bench warmer.

He’s right royalty fucked up. Be back in England in a couple of years having done nothing as he’s certainly isn’t going to be getting many games for them...

Isn’t that what his agents wants though mate? As many moves as possible

In some ways perhaps we do? Two of our academy players represented England in a World Cup semi final last year, so we clearly have something going for us.

Personally I think it was the right move for everyone given the circumstances. It's more important for the future of the club that players and agents don't hold us to ransom anymore. The new owners have been getting that message out there with their handling of Kone, Djilibodji, Ndong and Maja.

Also by his comments..just sounded like he wanted to leave at all costs. "A loan or whatever"

Heartwarming stuff
