I just struggle to believe that he's going into training telling Ross he wants to stay and is going to sign an extension, then before we know it he's refusing to play and emptying his locker.

It doesn't add up for me.
Hes been telt to dee that by the agent probably

Another legacy from the Short era. It's no coincidence that so many young players are so near the end of their contract.

It’s very easy to blame the Maja situation on Short but I think that’s unfair. The wheels were in motion for a sale of the club before May 2017. Short was hardly likely to make contract extensions of young, unproven players his priority (or direct Bain to make it his priority) when he neither knew which division we’d be in or whether he’d be running the club.

Donald has had time to sort this out. He has tried. Maja and / or his people didn’t want it to happen with the terms offered.

This is going to happen to us a lot, let's face it.

Kid's been here 3/4 years and obviously worked his socks off for a chance. He's taken the chance really well and from his point of view he'd be stupid not to consider a move. He's got a chance to progress and make more money too.

We are in a position where we're just too far down the pecking order to hold onto our real talent and we're very vulnerable financially. Unfortunately I reckon we'll see a few more leave in similar circumstances in the next year or so.

Asoro gone, now Maja. Who else could follow them?
I don’t think there is a current player at Sunderland who would raise more than £1 million if we sold them at the minute. Unless Embleton or Robson come really good in the next two years. Or possibly Benji but that seems a few more years away

Would you walk out on a club before a deal is struck - especially if the club is the one who gave you the career in the first place? Packing his bags before a deal is struck is Ndong/Djillibodji territory and Maja has more to owe the club than those other two sewer rats.
That's all hearsay. I'm not going to slag someone off over unsubstantiated rumours

It's a shite deal, but our hands are tied.

I disagree (Not with your hands tied, they clearly are) but with the fact its a bad deal. You are League one team at the moment, how many players leave for that price? You are talking about Grigg who is proven for 1m. Maja is untested at a higher level. He wasnt good enough to feature regularly before this season. This might be his level - the deal is a good one.

Just seen that he packed his gear up yesterday and told the club he isn't playing for them anymore.....the lad is no different to the bellends who we let go in the summer.

It's disrespectful to the club that's helped him to where he is, the fans and also his team mates

I hope the jumped it little twats career amounts to fuck all.

I think its not too bad as apparently we'd have gotten a pittance in the summer and it appears he wouldn't have agreed to play on for us anyway.
If we can get soneone to notch 8-10 goals between now and May it's likely more than we'd have gotten out of him.

Over to the board.

That's the tough part. Look at Wyke, we thought he'd guarantee us goals in this league and he looks awful. Who scouted him?

I love Sunderland, but if I was 20 and playing for a city I wasn't from, 250 mile away from my family , and playing in the 3rd league, and I got the opportunity to play in league 1 in France and get paid far more, then I'd do it.
Why do fans always get offended when players want to leave to play at a higher standard for more money.
How dare they leave league 1 Sunderland!
Leaving isn't an issue as such. The fact he kept telling Ross and Donald he wanted to sign and play for us, when in fact he was plotting away, is the bit that narks me. If he didn't say it, then why hasn't he come out and denied it? Donald actually said Maja went to see Ross unprompted the other week to say he was gonna sign the contract. He knows the turmoil this club has gone through. He's seen it from the inside himself The club and Ross gave him his chance, and he has back stabbed us and listened to his agent, who is out for the most money.

Of course they are totally entitled to make that decision, but don't expect me not to see his legs drop off, for taking us for a ride. He's a young lad, but i fear he might regret the way he has let this situation affect people who had his back, on a personal and professional level. He's made his bed now and can fuck right off as far as i'm concerned.

No, you would guess that

It's the way he's gone about it.
If he had come out and said he wants to challenge himself at a higher level, or gain some new experiences playing abroad and ask to leave, no issue with that, shows ambition.
He may have done this.
What he's done is all shite rumour

Barnsley's left back is potentially going for £6m...
