Very true. But I don't think anybody is going to be offering him huge amounts right now. Prem clubs are going to want to 'develop' him on the cheap, Champ clubs couldn't afford to. He either doesn't get 1st team football for cash, or gets a little bit more to go to the Championship, which he could be doing with us next year.

Form and fitness wise; if he had something to aim for both on the pitch and in his bank account, you'd think that'd be all the motivation he needed.

Far too reasoned a post for this forum

Interesting that we seem to be resigned to losing him all of a sudden.

If there was any sort of plan as to keeping him long term, we could give him the Will Grigg transfer money as wages (up to £1.5m according to some).

I reckon the buy and loan back option will come off and both sides will get a reasonable outcome from the deal.

I'm sure this has been pointed out before but just leave it to the end of the season if we are promoted we will be a very attractive club to him, if he goes we get compo

The thing with this is that unless the agent has a concrete offered for Maja, something along the lines of or better than he asked for and was offered here, then his agent should do his primary job and look after the player. This would mean him saying, "Right son, get this deal signed now. It's your first big deal and if you get your knee smashed in by some agricultural defender in League One you will still be a relatively rich man in four/ five years time if such an injury puts you out of the game".

Failing any other offer, the agent not getting the player to sign is actually serious neglect, and would show that his priorities are completely upside down, gambling on the player to do well enough in the rest of the season, while avoiding an injury, to attract a bigger offer and a bigger cut for himself. The lad could be fishing around for work in a couple of years time if he signs nothing and kops a bad one. It happens every year to more than one player .

If he has an offer we can't match then fair enough.

They didn’t open talks in August but as of this article at the end of September he had scored 7 in 9 and wanted to extend contract at that point I would have payed him what he was asking

To me it looks like we’ve tried to get him cheaper than he was asking until January then went fuck and offered him what he was asking

If they offered maja what he wanted back in September/October time I’m sure Donald would have told us that in one of he’s podcasts rather than telling us in January when they eventually agreed which was to late

Now I reckon they made the offer straight away (ish) and went public when they lost patience with the agent not responding.

Wonder if we'll find out?

This. We are the only Sunderland club that would

I'm still hoping if we do this we also sign Lawrence Shankland and loan him back to Ayr
