£10k a week with a rise if we get promoted and a release clause if we don’t. Surely nobody can say that’s not a good deal...surely

It’s a good deal and in keeping with the prudent management we now have. People like the Rat need to understand the changes for the better that have taken place in how we now operate. Mind you, he has had an agenda against Donald and co from the beginning..... silly arse! If we were throwing contracts at players to get them to stay, he’d be criticising that too!

It's not a good deal if someone else is willing to pay £20k per week for example. Looks like a decent deal to me though, not that I know anywhere near enough to judge.
I am not sure about this leaking details of contract offers out though, what purpose does it serve?
In a higher league yes, I agree we don’t know what the pay rise is if we go up, but it’s few months on £10k, a pay rise if we get promoted and a release clause if we don’t.

Details of the contract that was offered to Josh Maja have been revealed, whilst Jason Steele has spoken out at his portrayal in the ‘Sunderland Til I Die’ documentary. Latest on Maja’s future It was revealed yesterday that Josh Maja had told the club that his advised him against signing a new contract at Sunderland, which led to a flurry of media...

Sounds like Donald has tried to call Maja's bluff and it's backfired. Also, airing our dirty laundry in public doesn't sit right with me.
It was Maja's agent who started this. I don't have any issue with this being in the public domain. If what the club are saying is true i.e. we offered what the player and agent asked, the player wanted to sign, but, the agent told him 'don't sign', there's only one person who looks like a bastard... Josh Maja's agent.

He’s definitely had that. The I like the owners but....doesn’t wash anymore for me.
It’s an excellent deal for me, I really want Maja to stay, and I’m definitely not in the he only scored goals camp. But, he’s 19 and still needs to prove himself at a higher level. I hope he does it with us, and keeps making progress but I think that deal is excellent for where we are and where he is right now. It’s also a win win for him, a pay rise now, a pay rise if we get promoted and a release clause if we don’t. I really don’t think you can say fairer than that.

I think we need to wait and see who blinks next. We’ve apparently offered him what he asked for so not sure what else we can do.
You're right like, Janey, maybe my glass is half empty at present. I know from my own viewpoint tho, that if someone who supposedly represented me, went against my wishes to fill his own pockets, then his services would be rapaidly terminated!

@The Rat

Why a do you keep saying we offered 7k? You don't know that.

Also the only reports we have are that we offered him what he wanted, which you've been saying for weeks we should. Now that's not good enough for you.
Also why do people who disagree with you not want what's best for the club? It's a very ignorant and some mighty say arrogant viewpoint you take.

Spot on!

I agree with that. Even as a freelance worker via an agency if the agency hadn’t supported me I’d have changed (I know it’s a different world to football but in my world it’s the only comparable thing I have).

Is that what has been stated?
Trying to read through 140 pages and sorting out fact and opinion is a bit of a challenge!

There’s no sensible debate with him man. He has his own agenda and he twists everything round to suit it even if he contradicts himself in the process.

I don't really care who 'started it'. And agents will be agents, we know this.

I gave up recently on another thread about Maja. I explained my point over and over (whilst really trying not to do it in a sweary idiot proof way) and he just couldn't get it. I was bored in the end.

Genuinely think this place can't give him any enjoyment or is doing him any good. Maybe he needs to take a break from it ?

some say 10k, some say 7 times his current wages. Who knows what's correct.
But if iirc, the average wage is 2k/week, so I'd says it's fair to assume, he's been offered well above that.

So you wOuld prefer it was left to sky and his agent with no response from the club
