If he's only on £600/week currently then you can't blame him for keeping his options open.

That's the same wage I'm on!
Aye you dont get his bonus/s and I bet you work 5 day week or more

Let's face it he ain't going to sign and then Saturday if he plays it will be a '' head turned'' performance and subbed after 50 mins.... Hope I'm wrong

the contract is for next season..he has a contract for this season and this league...its next season eing negotiated..

There's still no way that they've offered him close to 18k. They'll have offered him loads of incentives, bonuses & incremental gains for promotion but nothing even close if we stay in league 1

Maja will be 100% & will give his all as usual. Whats more dangerous is him having 1 bad game & then people hounding him saying he's not up for it and should be peddled.

I might have this wrong, dementia plays tricks on us oldens but I’m fairly certain that both Maja and Asoro were offered new contracts under the Coleman regime but niether signed, understandably so as it was obvious that the club was in a mess. We then entered the changeover period between owners and Donald is on record as saying the only stipulation they put on old regime during the takeover negotiations was that no new contracts be entered into with the playing staff. Again an understandable position and then circumstances kicked in, Ross would of wanted to assess everyone before new contracts could be offered and the N’Dong Djilobodji sagas took priority

At the end of the day we are where we are due to circumstances that restricted our ability to do a deal rather than a lack of desire to do one
That's most probably very likely. Good post.

I think he could go on to be a very good player.

His chance conversion rate seems very high to me and he has clever movement suggesting that even up against better defending he will also be playing with more creative team mates so should be fine.

Hasn't got lightening pace though.

SD said in previous podcasts that league 1 players earn +-1500/w ...and our maximum would be 5 grand that we would offer any new players.

the contract is for next season...we have already committed to pay loads of players more than 5k for next season..and donald said the average is 6k anyway..

yet the best offers for him so far are.....

how many offers did Henderson or Pickford have aged 19?

Maja is already ahead of both (developmentally) in my opinion.

The Size of our club we could afford to pay over 5k. Big test for those two, I still feel they are too small time for a massive club like Sunderland.

we already pay more than 5k to lots of footballers..there are rules about what we can pay that all the league has to abide by but the rules are lighter for an academy player..

maja is league one...were both of those championship at that age?

Pickford was either at Burton Albion (league 2) or Carlisle United (league 1). Henderson was at Coventry (bottom half of championship). Maja in comparison has 39 games under his belt (mixture of championship and league 1) with 15 goals.

If he doesnt wat to do an Asoro he will sign a new 2 year deal with a guarantee of a move away at a minimum set fee if we do not get promotion this season. That way everybody wins

keepers develop much later...but pickford was eother preston in the championship or bradford in league one..he almosyt certainlhy played more games in the championship by the age maja is now than maja has..henderson was bottom half championship? that happens to be the highest level maja has ever played at..and henderson sttod out at coventry..maja didnt stand out in te championship..though our team was so shite it would have been hard fpr him tpo...

Why wouldn’t his performance last game not be a ‘head turned’ performance but this one would? If he doesn’t sign he would have known that last week anyway?

Sure a problem they inherited and because we dont have a choice.
well yes they inheirted..but they could have got rid of some more of the 5k easenes if they had really wanted to...otr sold other players to balance it..honeyman might be on more than 5k i dont know, but they could have sold him if they wanted to..mcgeady would probably have found a buyer..but they said nthy =ey didnt want to lose players who wanted to be there..and so far they have not..

he ,mihhght have got an offer this week thayt he didnt haeve last week. if he knew he had a v good offer last week i suspect he would have said then..

Henderson had played 10 games by the time Maja has managed almost 40. We've only played 24 games in league one which means he's played a minimum of 15 games at a higher level. He hasn't played every game this season which means his total of games at a higher level will be higher than 15.

Pickford is 24. Go back 5 years to the age of 19. He was at Carlisle in 2014 and Burton in 2013.
