Sunderland craic is great like. Especially 'disco pants'. You are a bunch of wild, zany and totally crazy guys coming up with that kind of banter. Disco pants. Amazing.

Been a thing as long as I remember but I'm only 32.

I reckon it's a lot to do with the word "cheesy". Bit like "wheyz keyz are theyz" or "sewper dewper compewter", it sounds amusing in a mackem accent I suppose

Honestly never heard of them till the gravy squad started mouthing off about them. Obviously a newcastle delicatessen.
I mean lets face it stotties were invented on tyneside to fit the geordie nations mouths.

I walked past a cafe in Newton Aycliffe last week where I saw a bloke with a Sunderland top on eating a plate of cheesy chips. I must admit I had a quiet chuckle to myself

Its obviously a pronunciation thing, which tbh baffles me as im from right in the middle of Sunderland and i pronounce "blue" and "Cheesey" as i think the majority of the English speaking world do!
The most baffling of course is "wheez keys are these keys".....the issue being that the only word in there that isn't pronounced in 'normal English' is "wheez" - however i know f***ing loads of mags who, when talking in their own accent pronounce it exactly that way.

Its just something i think they like to cling to as 'their banter'

I dont know a single mackem that pronounces their words (like the super duper computer one) like that though.

its just bizarre imo

I still take the satisfaction out of the fact we have ham and peaspudding sandwitches, where as the geordies only have peaspudding sandwitches.
