LVCC D1 - Surrey v Durham

brandon

Striker
No Onions.

Wouldn't mind seeing:-

Stoneman
Smith
Borthwick
Benkenstein
Stokes
Collingwood
Mustard
Breese
Wood
Thorp
Rushworth

If the conditions suit, I think we might see an extra spinner in the side and only two out of Rushy, Thorp and Wood playing with Stokes and Benks being the other seamers, very little surprises me now with team selection.

Think Brandon's spot on with that selecion. Smith would supply a 3rd spinning option-and the Oval is often responsive to spin but we haven't got an experienced 3rd spinner.

Sky sports have just said Graham Smith has gone back to SA with an ankle injury, bad for him but good for us.

Ridiculous that Onions is in the Lions squad. England know all about him and should either pick him for England or leave him with Durham.

As for Smith going home. Looking at his form I think I'd have preferred him to stay in England with Surrey.

Totally agree, if he gets five wickets are they suddenly going to think, hang on this lad ain't a bad bowler.

He has shown what he is about year after year.

That's disaster for Surrey, looks like he won't play again this season.

Agreed mate.

LIONS should be for players who haven't already played for England.

Buckley in for Breese.

Possibly Jennings in for Stokes

Is Breesey crocked?

Quite light/inexperienced in the bowling ranks with Rushworth/Wood/Thorp in the seam attack, Borthwick/Buckley/Smith to turn to as twirlers. Presumably Benk and Colly will have to fill in a few overs of seam.

I'd play Claydon for Stokes like, just as an extra bowling option. We'd still have a decent batting lineup too with Wood 8, then Claydon/Thorp/Rushy as 9, 10, Jack.

Knows his cricket this lad

Geoff Cook in his post match interview with Marty Emmerson after the one dayer said the championship pitch looks like a real turner from day 1 and that Buckley will make his debut in place of Breese.
Also Stokes has returned from hospital no serious damage but is very sore and will be checked tomorrow but thought it unlikely he would play. Jennings travelling to the Oval and will be on stand by.

Could be an interesting team sheet, apparently there's 16 players down there to pick from now.

If the pitch is going to be spin friendly i wonder if they would play Borthwick Buckley and Pringle.
Borthwick is probably going to be our potential match winner but can be expensive and it looks from Pringles two short bowling stints in the one dayers that he would be economical and might be less pressure on him and Buckley if they made their debuts together and shared the work load.
Whatever happens good luck to them I love to see the academy lads breaking through into the first team.
Also good to see Colly bowl a few overs yesterday they may need him.
