LVCC D1 - Derbyshire v Durham

Weather watch - as things currently look.......

We may lose a tomorrow but Day 4 looks fine.

As for , tomorrow looks like constant showers, so they may not get on. Perhaps at best they might lose two sessions. As for Day 4, they could lose a session in the afternoon.[DOUBLEPOST=1379011043][/DOUBLEPOST]As for the match, we just have to bat. As ICBYD says, one decent partnership should ensure us a lead and with our batting depth we should look to play some shots and aim for a lead by Tea. If we can get a lead, any kind of lead, we can put pressure on them late tomorrow or on Day 4 to force a win.

After seeing the weather I feel better about our chances and Sussex' draw chances. If Yorkshire don't win, there's no real need for us to take any daft risks. Yorkshire look unlikely to get 5 batting points but I definitely wouldn't rule it out. As for us, I'd take 3 batting points, anything else would be great but owt above 300 gets us the lead.

I'm seeing both venues clear until 4 ish, then rain could hit both....

Saturday looks worse on south coast, but who knows that far off

Borthwick seems to be doing well there. Our top scorer in fact  so I wouldn't bugger about too much with him. Could look a bit Richardson higher up the order.

I would try Borthwick here next season.

I hear what people are saying, he is doing excellent at 3, but he looks so composed and disciplined I think he would be ideal. He has come in very early on in a number of occasions anyway.

I think we might be well advised to leave well alone with SB. We have took a chance on more or less giving him the season at number three and he has done really well. He has earned the right to be in that spot in the future, ( another big one tomorrow would do just nicely Scotty!) But number three is a hard position , requiring the discipline you mention, but also sometimes the shot making we know he is capable of. I think it would be easier to find an opener than a number three if we were looking.

too early to write off jennings IMO, no getting away from him having had a poor year but hes still a kid. stick with him to open.

as always credit must go to our exceptional bowling attack that we can effectively carry a side missing an opener to the brink of a title [whether we win or not].

over the last few years we have racked up so many wins despite very very rarely taking maximum bowling points, or even many

Good day, but still completely open with yorkies - could extend lead or have it wiped out. Feeling more confident about not losing though.

Hoping for a couple of good partnerships and a first innings lead with batting points. We don't need to push too hard for a win.

Well done to Rushy and Bunny again. Unreal that England constantly overlook GO.

Keaton Jennings is 21 and has been playing 1st team cricket for one year, after scoring buckets for the 2nds. A bit early to be writing him off, no?

I'm not writing him off, I'm just questioning whether he's the man for the opening slot.

He came into the side last year as a middle order man and perhaps that's where he'd be better suited?

I doubt anyone was suggesting KJ should be binned, just taken out of the firing line for a while

Isn't he an opener by trade? Plus, we're hardly blessed with top order batsmen. We'd only end up putting a proven failure like Smith back into the side.

I agree with Steak Pie.

We should stick with Jennings. Standing by young players has stood us in good stead over the years. We all know this title would already be wrapped up if we had produced some solid opening stands this season, but they will come and the side will be all the better for it.

Was not writing him off in the slightest.

Just exploring options within the squad.

I have said in previous posts Id prefer us not to sign anyone new for next season.

BBC forecast at Hove looks great today.

Showers and sunshine from 1300. Could be an on off day.

Saturday looks like showers from 1000 until mid afternoon.

Derby looks dry, but cloudy.

our innings having just started makes it hard to call, but if the forecast is to be believed Yorkshire are going to struggle to engineer a win down at Hove

are you going to try to get across to Hove at all when we play?

I am on leave on the Thursday and Friday of that week. My plan is to get across for the day which looks like the result day. But I'm supposed to be decorating. I'm assuming Teacher and the usual drunks will be going.

Are you popping along?

Chez Beckenham has been put on alert. I'll wait and see what the weather is looking like before making any concrete plans.[DOUBLEPOST=1379059499][/DOUBLEPOST]

Brownie points need to be accrued. Luckily it's only a small room.

We should have a fair few membership cards, so the Pavilion is on the cards. They seemed to have a great time at Lord's judging by the photos.

Definitely showery and gloomy there today, and heavier rain by the close

Derby looks fine
