Aleem Dar

Striker
117 off 60 balls in the Big Bash League. 8 4's and 9 6's.

This should ensure he's selected for any forthcoming England IT20 matches.

class act

I see Shah top scored for the opposition with 55

Two players who havent fulfilled their potential doing well in Australia

I too like both players you mention. Both can hit six's at ease something we lack in the current outfit.

I reckon both can still have a future with England especially in the shorter formats.

Luke Wright should be opening the batting in IT20 games, along with Craig Keiswetter. IMO.

Averages 22 with the bat and 15 wickets at 57 in 46 ODI's

Averages 15 in T20 and has 6 wickets at 36.50 in 30 games

Think his best position is lower down the order as a finisher, but I think he's a bit of a flat track bully, any swing or spin and he's knackered.

is his 100 on a flat wicket in Australia (how many sides score best part of 200 each in our 20/20 bash) evidence of how hard it is to 'play shots' in England and the reason for his lackustre performances

Stick with him

Watched a replay of that this afternoon - don't know much about him tbh, but he hit the ball very cleanly.

He actually slowed down after getting his 100 which came off 44 balls I think.

greatly under rated and a travesty he is not in the england squad at present

Agreed. Like most English players in the ODI environment he's a terrible player of spin bowling. His two options are either block or slog, not the worst option for a T20 player but he shouldn't be anywhere near the ODI squad.

He's an incredibly limited player

Can slog length balls miles and for the majority of matches hes a decent selection. Problem with Wright though its not just when its seaming around he is completely useless against a short quick delivery which he plays with no control.

Hes less likely to succeed against quality attacks than most.

Shah is a class act but not always the sharpest knife in the drawer.

luke wright supports nufc, by the way

the amount of chances he has had to fulfill his potential is more than enough.

i would take him in the t20 squad for the world cup, but as a back up

Spot on post.

Surely we can find space in the t20 squad for both. I really like Shah too, got summat about him, but looks like he has pissed off some guys in the right places mind.

Not the best stats I agree.

He's still only a bairn though. We have a tendancy in this country to throw our youngsters on the scrap heap too early. Perservere with the lad. He can hit a beefy 6, which is a good attribute which most of our currunt crop struggle to do.

Excellent post, totally agree.

Wright simply does not have the technique to cope against a decent quality attack in favourable conditions.

Not a good enough bowler or batsman to play international cricket, and we've been shite at one day stuff for years because we've had too many bits and pieces cricketers in the team

We have been shite at one day cricket because of our inability to stick with a nucleaus of players and constantly chop and change and try and copy other nations rather than playing to our own strengths

The likes of Cameron White, Steve Smith, David Hussey are all bits and pieces cricketers to a large degree and Australia have been ranked one for a number of years so hasnt done them any harm

I feel a bit sorry for Hussey and he is probably destined to be regarded as a bits and pieces cricketer.

White and Smith are younger and had their chances to make a name for themselves at Test level.

Hussey is an intelligent cricketer and a very good batsman in all forms of the game, but was never going to break into a strong Test team when he was young enough.

Michael Clarke's (I'm not a fan) 1st class average in 46 - Hussey's is nearly 55.
