Luke O'Nien

In all honesty I think we were left open today after adjusting our play to be more attacking and having a go of it, first 10 mins there was a massive difference in the tempo and direct play imo and we were trading blows with them for most of the game instead of the usual sit back and wait for chances
Aye in the midst of the disappointment of today, it’s been lost that the first half was good on the balance of play. Thought we shaded it personally. We were ragged both ends of the pitch second half until that late flurry.

Geertruida and Hume played well against nufc and were dropped, villa away was a massive difference and a on form Watkins, was always going to be very difficult for onien, we had so many options and didn’t pick the right one
Its all ifs and ifs

Hume came on and scored. He might not have scored had he started.

Then there's an argument for saying he might have stopped the goals going in.. back to ifs

As much as as we all love 09, you could it was his fault for the 1st goal, although no-one was tracking McGlynn
Almost scored and OG when Watkins stuck it always for Villa's 2nd (certainly would have been had he touched it)
Nowhere near Rodgers when villa went 3-1
Nowhere near cutting out the cross for Villas winner

If Ballard is fit for Friday, surely he starts?

Now before anyone starts, I love the lad (09), but you surely he sits out the next game on the bench.

Nah they really aren't.

There was 4 Sunderland players in the box for the second goal.

On the second one the replay clearly showed Watkins bullied O9 out of the way before the ball came across. On the last one he's too busy trying to grapple with Abraham than actually attack the ball coming in.

Sometimes you just have to be honest and say he's done well to get up to this level, but it's a step too far.

The 2nd one is dreadful. Hes literally holding him and side by side, then a second later when the ball is played, watkins is 5 yards away for a tap in.

He's not at the level to be able to cope with this. There was a point in the wnd half on half way when I think he tried to ruffle up watkins and ended up getting dragged along on the floor. Embarrassing to watch.

But 09 wasn't the only defender on the pitch so why was he left to deal with Watkins and Abraham at the same time.

Let’s cut the “mr Sunderland” bull shit. He is absolutely rank at this level. Should have conceded a penalty against Leeds. Gave a goal away against the mags and was at fault for 3 of the goals today. The lad is hopeless ffs

If the truth be known he should br nowhere near a team looking to get into Europe..was found out big style todsy just hope reggie doesnt feel he owes him.a y loyalty and keeps playing him when we hsve much better in reserve
Aye.

Interesting section on the MOTD analysis tonight where they spent some time highlighting our defensive frailty’s (and particularly 09s) and showed how we could have won the game with a better back line.

What were you saying about people loving to stick the boot in ? Got some big old boots you by the way which spent most of the match thread stamping all over 09.

I get that we all see faults in the players but you were relentless with him today. Now looking at your posts today you’re going to come back with a counter but I can’t be arsed to get into that, you’re a decent poster but I’m struggling with your negativity given the season we’ve had.

They're not going to stop. Their minds are made up and every game they find some form of confirmation bias. Had Diarra/Talbi scored we would have been 4-0 in 09 starts this season, but that wouldn't have stopped them. Had 09 been sat for Geertuida or Ballard there is no guarantee that the outcome would have been any different than an L (which is what a lot of people expected anyway playing away to a very good team). Wonder who the scapegoat would have been then???

As a poster on here you are pretty much the same

Haven't you been slagging off Diarra relentlessly? So that's not negative? Hypocrite.
