Luke O'Nien

Is there actually something wrong with you?

Are you missing all the positive things the lad does?

Today he made two last ditch, potentially goal saving blocks/challenges.

He scuffed the pass against the mags, his mistake.
Got pushed for the port vale one,
Was given a shit pass to try and win against city and was man of the match against Leeds

If this is the kind of garbage you come up with when you think of this lad then you are a very sad individual.
He's an absolute spenk.

Luke is our premier League centre half.

The poster is just desperate for attention.

Thanks for the reply. I agree to a degree. He definitely has limitations. By those criteria, is it fair to say he could never be a PL centre half in your estimation?

I was thinking more in terms of, despite those criticisms, he achieves a certain number of appearances. Or is part of a defence that secures a certain number of clean sheets? I appreciate that he’s a cog in a machine in those situations, but that’s the case with most players in a team game who aren’t blessed with elite level flair.

I sometimes think that there are a certain group of players who are technically suspect, but accrue a significant number of PL appearances. Like Whitehead, Kilbane, Collins, etc. I’d consider them lower bracket PL players who have forged a career in the league, without being seriously considered to be top half quality.
Fair enough. 👍

As a centre half?
1) Hasn’t got the physique at set pieces, that’s why he’s always wrestling opponents instead of just winning the ball like Ballard or Alderete.
2) Hasn’t got the pace.
3) Drifts towards the ball, leaving the person he’s marking.

But he can

1) Pass a ball with both feet
2) Carry the ball forward.

A higher end Championship player, which tbh is a lot better than the rest of us.
Spurs had top international defenders today and they couldn’t keep a clean sheet against one of the poorest forward lines in league, meanwhile LON came thru game as part of a team keeping a clean sheet, Spurs probably had more quality in every position but they have no team spirit.

Anyone who doesn't think Luke is a premier player needs to go watch another sport. His distribution is brilliant, he runs through walls for Sunderland, exactly what we need.
The fans love for that type of player, instead of a bit of quality over the years, is exactly why we have been so shite.

They love to shout HUME, when he goes diving in, instead of realising that a bit more of positional awareness would have been better.

Spurs are third bottom of the league.

He did have a good game today though.

Not many centre half’s in the prem as two footed as onien yet ya going on about a bit of quality

Two promotions and currently pushing for a European place with those two consistently in the team, by the way.

09 has been consistently in the team this season has he?

RLB selecting Hume or 09 over Geertruida is beyond me tbh.

Over this season, and previous X seasons where we've achieved promotion - yes.

His contribution in defence this season is easy to see too: 7 apps, 3 starts, 320+ minutes, 1 goal conceded.
Trai has featured in every single game this season.

We're 1 point off Europe.

"exactly why we have been so shite."

320 mins is roughly 3.5 games.

In that time, one red card, one abysmal goal, handed to the visitors.

He is valued on Transfermarkt at €1m…….🤔🤔🤔

Still going on about someone pulling someone because it’s onien :):):) people do it every single game
Brobbey did it against Fulham. Don’t care that he scored against the Mags now.

Why? Geertruida has done nowt. He’s definitely not done enough to show he’s worth £20m to replace Hume.

Excellent against the visitors.
Excellent against Chelsea.

Wanted by Liverpool.

For me onien perfectly good squad player to have he’s capable in the league which he has shown but he’s mentality an character is priceless to the club

Exactly my point obviously you didn’t get it, you can have better players but without a team of players who run through walls you have nothing.
We are 10th in league but probably 8 teams below us have on paper better players, the likes of LON, Hume are not top players but they have the bite and especially Hume is one of the reasons we have the 3rd best defensive records in the league
