You can trace a goal back as far as your want to go , but as a centre defender marking the striker that scored if you leave him and he scores it’s down to you that’s your job to stop him scoring
Its also the job of wide players to stop crosses and track players making runs.

Seems to set off some sort of riot on here when it’s 09. For every criticism there seems to be a poster who’ll defend him at all costs.
You can definitely argue he’d had a few decent games prior to today, but the SJP error and some of the defending today puts him firmly behind our other options at CB and this should be obvious to most people. he’s been here long enough to make an assessment.

I always praise onien and defend him when he gets the blame but he lost Watkins twice and also Abraham today the first one was horrific getting drawn to the ballYou support sunderland mate.

The cross isn’t the deciding factor in a goal it’s the finish so because someone got a cross in onien no longer has to do his job as a centre defender and mark his man if he did this was at least two of the goals maybe 3 avoidable today first one in particular should of been a easy header away if he wasn’t ball watching and stayed tight to Watkins

First goal has deffo got an eye on (I think) Rogers running clean through the middle thinking the ball will be played there.
Second is a great goal.
As is the third , and he can't leave Watkins and run with Rogers ;
Fourth he's fucked and good movement by the villa player and a tired Luke unfortunately lets him go. It happens.
