Luke O'Nien


I want to know how his mam and dad got tickets for the match, proper fans should of had them 😉

From moment he packed his car up and videoed himself driving to Sunderland his enthusiasm, at one of our lowest points in our history, shone through. After years of watching over-paid primary-Donna’s who couldn’t give a shiny shit he was a breath of fresh air.

He didn’t start brilliantly but instead of sulking he knuckled down, and was determined to be a success. He has been just brilliant for Sunderland, not just on the pitch but off it, in the community and with fans.

You can fake things but you can tell he is genuine in his love for Sunderland the club, Sunderland the city and Sunderland the fans.

And I love he talks about his family so much too.

In that episode of STID when the fan asked who he was…. well we all know now Luke. ❤️🤍❤️🤍

I keep saying Luke is a very smart Lad. His former shithousery was as intentional as Richie Pitt's foul on Alan Clarke in the opening minutes o the 1973 Cup Final.

In the lower Leagues his antic's distracted the toughies among the opposition and prevented our kids from being bullied. He regularly took one for the team and took the piss out of opponents rather than resorting to violence. He got away with a heck of lot because ref's thought he was just being daft but you can bet it put quite a few off our opponents of their stride. He will not be called upon to do any of that in the Premier League.

Give the guy some credit. He's a thinker not at all the sort of bloke who gets the red mist.

You’ve got me so wrong there.

I wasn’t worried out of any perceived lunacy on his behalf.
I was concerned that his utter enthusiasm might end in a foul (or semi-foul) that Pawson couldn’t wait to pounce upon.

Nowt to do with red mist.

I've always liked him from the day he signed.
I remember him saying something along the lines of when sunderland were interested he packed up his audi A3 and drove up north. Didn't matter about the contract etc.
Just a lad who wants to play football, but is dedicated, professional and loves the club.

He has developed into the next legend of the club. People will put him up there with the best servants this club has had, and we've had some legends!
A player who 'gets' the club and has a genuine connection to the fans.

We don't want the best players in the world, we want players who put in their best for the club, and L09 is one of them.

Remember him taking part during the SoL seat restoration...the lad he was paired with mentioned that the seat he repairs might be remembered as his seat ....then promptly access him who he is ...


300+ games Later and hes still the same happy to be here canny lad he always was.

I want to know more about this Simon Moore phenomenon….L09 actually credits him with being the most important figure in us getting promoted, is that right? What on earth is he doing behind the scenes?

So has Roef's and he's spoken about how good he's been at welcoming him to the club. From that interview Luke seems to see his role in the squad changing. He's not deluded and knows he isn't going to be keeping Sadiki or Mukiele on the bench but he can have that leadership role still and contribute when he gets his chances on the pitch.

I love seeing that we clearly have some really good people in the squad these days. It's such a tonic to the likes of Danny Graham etc giving 'banter' stories about how crazy they were and all the fun times they had while being absolutely shite.

Yes. It was great that O’Nien even acknowledged the calibre of person coming in, in addition to the obvious calibre of player. Great to see
