We don’t have the money for big name signings so we have to grow from within with the odd addition to the squad.

If you played as a junior in 2000, you are much younger than I thought you were lol
Played junior cricket with my lad ( although he was few years older ) just comes across as a miserable old git 😉

Double win for Brandon.

Absolute barnstormer with the 1sts at home to Durham City who made 255-9, but an unbeaten 131 from Muchall saw Brandon Home.

Needing 4 to win from the last ball he hit a 6.

Always said Gordon was a canny player. ;)

Had 2 16 over games last week to finish the season off 1-24 and 0-26 which I don't think are too bad off 4 overs all in all apart from one disastrous game my first season back has been decent only bowled one head high full toss all season instead off 2 in my first 3 balls hopefully I'll be able to play more next season but it's such a long day on a Saturday to commit too when you have football and work

Currently watching Whitburn 1sts v Sunderland 1sts. Whitburn struggling at 46/3 of 19ov.

Anyone knarr if they take card payments in the bar?
Whitburn 92a/o. Sunderland 94/3 off about 20 overs won at a canter (they were 2/2 at one point like). Enjoyable afternoon tbf, currently sat in the bar watching England.

The older I get, the more the hip high full toss on leg stump becomes my stock ball, which belies my supposed role as leg spinner. However, by judicious use of a deep square leg, it still (shamefully) takes wickets.

Saw Whitburn at Philadelphia in the midweek league on Thursday. Thought they'd done well to get home team 81 all out off last ball, but they totally fell to bits in reply, getting 40 all out. Very surprised as they won this competition 2 years back.

I mainly bowl left arm off spin or medium pace depending on the pitch but do occasionly bowl legspin as a variation, I like bowling leg spin it's just a shame when I do it normally goes out the ground it's such a hard skill to master probably why Scott borthwick and Steve Smith give it up as there main discipline to focus on batting

From when I first bowled a ball, in junior school, I instinctively wanted to spin it as I was fascinated by watching the actions and deliveries of the likes of Phil Edmonds, Ray East, Intikhab Alam etc etc in the mid 70s. Soon as I joined a club, the coaching was entirely about bowling it flat round the wicket, trying to hit the right hander's pads, to contain more than attack. The occasional edge caused by deviation out of the rough was not too prevalent in the north east back then. I didn't really enjoy bowling like that. Hence, I lost the competitive urge and at University and after, I played purely recreational cricket. Ironically, I packed in playing just when Kumble and Warne were in their pomp, only starting to play again about 6 years ago, strictly recreational stuff. What I find is if you bowl it at 2 miles an hour, few players at that level have the ability to get their timing right and slog you or go onto the back foot and cut, so basically most of my wickets have been either stumpings if they miss it, or caught from top edges. Yes, it is buying wickets, but who cares how you get them out?
