Double win for Brandon.

Absolute barnstormer with the 1sts at home to Durham City who made 255-9, but an unbeaten 131 from Muchall saw Brandon Home.

Needing 4 to win from the last ball he hit a 6.

Both Washington Firsts and Seconds continued their winning starts to the season, with the thirds and the Hetton Lyons Sunday League team winning all of their games so far that’s 14 out 14 wins so far this season for the weekend teams.

Yes not bad at all, still have Chester-Le-Street,Durham Academy and Willington to play, so some tough games to come, hopefully all three teams get to the play offs. I think it’s the top two in each section plus the two best third placed teams who will make up the quarter finals.

The club has come on a long way from the days of the NEDCL. Nothing wrong with that league by the way, they helped the club survive in the 1970’s and beyond.

Aye, I remember first playing there as a junior around 2000 when Washington’s junior teams joined the County League.

Always been a nice little ground, I’m glad to see you doing well too because (I could be wrong but) I’ve always had the opinion that it’s mainly local lads. It’s great to see any club producing lots of capable cricketers of their own.

Ash Thorpe is a great bloke too in my experience.

We don’t have the money for big name signings so we have to grow from within with the odd addition to the squad.

If you played as a junior in 2000, you are much younger than I thought you were lol

I remember scoring for Dawdon 3rds at Washington CW in 1964(?) - I am old!

Yes that as the old ground, before the pit closed and we lost the ground, didn’t play for a season, then got the use of The Glebe Welfare on Sunday’s only, so couldn’t rejoin the coast league. Two years later we lost that ground as well. We ended up playing home games away and hiring grounds until, we got the use of our current ground, once again only on sundays. It has been a long rebuild from there to where we are now.

The season we kept playing with no ground the NEDCL were very supportive of a club run by a group of 17 year olds as we were then.

Im struggling to think of a better run NE club than Washington. 5 senior teams, junior teams and competing at first team level with a core of home grown players.
