No it's Rafael,do you refer to the manager of Bournemouth as Eddie?I prefer Ted.
Apologies owed then. Obviously myself & the rest of the footballing world have been thrown by the fact that he's been known as Rafa Benitez for as long as he's been known.

Strange argument from a poster named Andy anyway.

I think that their biggest problem is the way that RB operates in the transfer market, where he seems to spend money like water on a vast number of players, hoping that some will work out.

In his time at Liverpool he signed sixty players, many of whom hardly managed a game and were eventually sold for knock down fees.

Assuming he adopts the same approach at SJP then I can foresee huge problems for them in the future as they try to shift the deadwood, especially with the FFP rules that are now in place.

Now found this which reports that the number he actually signed wasn't 60 but seventy six!!

I expect they'll get promoted, Hull and Burnley came straight back and neither will have the money to throw at it that's rumoured to be at Benitez's disposal.

The potential fly in the ointment for them is how Norwich react to relegation, how Pearson does at Derby and what Villa do between now and August in terms of managerial appointments and investment in players.

Maybe Brighton or Wednesday might go one better too - you can always hope!

All depends how the fat one adjusts to life in the championship

Don't forget he's only ever managed in the top leagues before going to be quite a culture shock for him
Might be a job too far

You can only hope but the championship football I watched last season was very poor standard. It's not a given but usually a half decent manager with (at championship level),a huge budget should be able to make the top two.

How is this all going to be financially sustainable?

Keeping the £80 million squad who are on massive wages
Keeping Rafa on a huge wage
Giving him a big transfer budget?

It seems the club is taking a massive, massive gamble to take them back up. If they fail on the first attempt, the fiscal consequences will be enormous.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

They won't keep all their squad like.
Last time about three quarters of their first team jumped ship, so their wages will come down one way or another.
I'd be surprised if Townsend and Winaldjum are still there next season like...

They will probably come straight back up mind.

.

I think once the reality of next season dawns on some of their squad they'll be a few departures. The likes of Cissoko, Wijnaldum, Janmaat etc will undoubtedly leave and they will be the highest wage earners.

Benitez would, despite his predictable fawning over the warmth of the fans etc, have only been persuaded to stay by huge wages.

His transfer budget doesn't need to be huge by premier league standards. If they get decent money for the players they sell that would easily finance four of five more than capable of looking good at championship level.

They won't get promoted
They might, however they are no better equipped to come up than half a dozen other clubs imo, their manager and the majority of their players have no clue what to expect from the division, the likes of Derby with Pearson and the fact they've been there or thereabouts for years would put them above the Mags imo, Villa will spend a fortune and Norwich have done it once so could do it again, I'd be surprised if they weren't top four but then comes the lottery of the playoffs, we'll see....

re: Hard league to get out of?
The first time Ashley relegated us, Rafa guided Liverpool to 2nd with the best goal difference and most goals scored in the prem, losing 2 games all season.
