I think the players I've mentioned are strong enough physically to go toe-to-toe with your players in a derby, I just think recently they've not had the character. That said, I think that core of players with a proper manager and a few key additions will certainly have the character and the physique to compete and be successful in the Championship.

There's a semantic difference in a team having no spine and a team being spineless. The former refers to a core of players in key positions, traditionally; 'Keeper, Centre Back, Centre Mid, Centre Forward. The latter references a team's character or lack thereof.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Are you pretending to be at work again? Why you pretend to be someone you're not is staggering. Your team does not have a decent spine as you'll see next season, lightweight and full of spineless individuals, you'll be able to relate to that.

@The Fish : I've been looking at toontastic and reading some of the comments that your fellow Newcastle supporters have been making regarding "deluded mags" "Geordie nations" and the Johnson scandal etc. I'm not going to register on that site to comment, but interested in your opinion all the same. You seem like a reasonable articulate and intelligent chap.

It would appear that whilst your fellow supporters are happy to argue that the stereotypes we apply to them are the outcome of confirmation bias and that the vast majority of Newcastle supporters are not deluded, bitter or bed sheet scrawling 'Geordie nation-ists' they seem quite content to apply the very strange principle that all Sunderland supporters are supportive of playing a convicted paedophile in the team as long as he scores a goal or two to avoid relegation - and that we are all supportive of some kind of 'petition' with which I'm unfamiliar.

To be honest I don't recognise a lot if the references but maybe I'm out of touch.

It seems strange to me that in defence of themselves and in arguing against the application of unconscious biase toward them, they should apply the same principle against their perceived critics.

I'm not going to argue regarding the facts of what Sunderland supporters actually knew or were told about the Johnson affair. They, because of their bias would say - well what they have said, and vice versa.

But does it hurt more, or less, regarding your own clubs plight to assume that the plight only exists because the opposition are evil?
