Leicester forum - Championship thread

I haven’t been to Leicester since Filbert Street, and I never liked that place much.

dodgy fans and nearly always got beat there.
Yeah....2 visits and 2 defeats for me. Fans were rough. In 88 or 89 when Gary Macallister was playing for them. 3 0 or 3 1. Then New Years Day 94. Another defeat with David Speedie scoring and winding up the away fans.

I went to Filbert Street with a Leicester mate of mine back in about 97.
I was in the 'home' end with my mate and they were not enjoying the game at all. Their left back was absolutely terrible.
The crowd started singing "ten men! We've only got ten men". After an absolute age, the manager took the hint and subbed the poor lad off.
I believe his career went down the toilet after that. The Leicester 'fans' completely broke him.

This time last year you genuinely thought Leicester were more likely to go down than Everton? Or in the previous few year before that when they were competing in Europe, battling for Champions League spots until the final day of the season and winning the FA Cup?
No. That’s not what I said. Everton have been floating around the plug hole.

But it would be more of a shock for Everton to be here than Leicester. And a bigger deal. It just would.

Funnily enough I know where you’re coming from with that .
It would have been a big story ( and hilarious to watch )

Edit: It was Wednesday 29 Jan 1997 and Neil Lewis was subbed off at half time.
They shipped him off to Peterborough where he played 34 games then they sent him to Ibstock Welfare.

I went with a Leicester mate to a midweek night game , I’m sure it was Palace, they were 0-4 down at half time, absolute shite , 2nd half it was like a different team, Palace couldn’t get near them and they got it back to 4-4 with about 15 mins left, they then took the foot off and it finished a draw, why they didn’t carry on for the win I don’t know.

This championship is strongest I can ever remember but I’d bet some decent cash on Leicester and Southampton being the top 2 like. Then anything after would be Leeds, Norwich, Watford, Cov.

If we are anywhere near the playoffs again I’d be delighted like

Neil Lewis !!
You are right about the stick he got and it breaking him.
Always remember him taking a throw in at Elland Road and the ball somehow hitting the back of his own head and going into the crowd !

Your top line does slightly contradict your second line mind  but I do get what you mean.

It'd be a bigger deal but it wouldn't have been shocking at all I don't think, for the exact reasons you say in that post just there.

I was also at Filbert Street in with the Chelsea fans the day of the Hillsborough disaster, Chelsea needed a win for promotion, Leicester won 2-0. We had Oldham away that day iirc

Yeah I hope it doesn’t come off like a dig. Anyone of the stalwarts, successful recently or not and less successful than Leicester would be a bigger story.

I think you’ve had huge success in a short space of time it’s not had a huge shock for me to see you back here, it hasn’t been that long. I dunno. Maybe I can’t articulate well enough.

I guess there’s morbid curiosity that I would have compared to Everton.

I just looked at the info for that game. We didn't get beat that day: drew 1-1, Garry Parker pen equalising Darren William's goal for us.
I'm not surprised the game was grim: we had Gareth Hall, they had Simon Grayson.
Mind, we also had Alex Rae and Paul Bracewell in midfield, and they had Heskey up front, Izzett & Lennon in Midfield and Matt Elliott trying to make some of their defending look ok.

That was ahem lively !!
A bit surreal as the shenanigans died down a bit after the match and the footage from Hillsborough started to come on the telly’s in the pubs 😒

yeah it was, went with a Chelsea mate, we’d just joined the back of the Chelsea que then heard this roar and breaking glass , looked round and there’s a mob of Leicester coming down, I’m thinking I’m gonna get kicked to shit here and I don’t like either team 😂

I load of Chelsea came running up from further down the que and scattered the leicester lot, remember a skinhead , braces, forehead tattoo, 14 holder DMs the lot saying to his mate ‘we should have done them Clive, we should have done them ‘.
was kicking off all over after as well, when we got back to the car we heard what had gone on at Hillsborough and just sat listening all the way home not saying a word.

How has your club got on in your lifetime mate?
Not very well.
Couldn’t even afford to sack Rodgers initially. Financially they’re not the greatest.

If they sell Maddison and Barnes and recruit well they’ll be hard to stop.
Big if though. It’s let them down badly recently hence where they are now. I expect them to do well but not to dominate by any stretch. Lost £92m last accounts as well.

I'm so glad they went down, they have a massive chip on their shoulder that they weren't accepted into any talk of a Big 6 or similar, and Vardy and his Mrs are a pair of prize twats
